People often ask why my young horses are so relaxed and confident so early on, and it all comes down to one simple fundamental principle:
FORWARD MOTION!
Many riders find this counterintuitive and avoid forward movement out of fear, assuming slow control keeps them safe, but the exact opposite is true!
HERE IS WHY! When a c**t feels restricted before developing confidence, its natural flight instinct becomes trapped, channeling that pent-up tension into resistance, bucking, and dangerous blowups. Asking the horse to move out freely allows him to release anxious energy, process its environment, and find a natural rhythm where true relaxation can occur. By prioritizing FORWARD MOTION over rigid control, you give the c**t a safe outlet for stress while building the trust, softness, and responsiveness needed for long-term safety under saddle.
