I know you’ve all been waiting for this….
🐻 BEAR UPDATE 🐻
The dog that I picked up 6 weeks ago…. The jumpy, mouthy, pushy, overweight, rude, and under stimulated Rottweiler…. Is no longer. 👋🏻
Please meet the NEW AND IMPROVED 🐻 BEAR 🐻
Bear has always been a good boy. He really has! But he never really got the opportunity to develop the skills as a puppy and adolescent that he needed as an adult.
So, in the last 6 weeks, we have learned to replace jumping/mouthing behaviors with calm body behaviors to access resources, toys, or interaction- Bear is an absolute rockstar at shifting his energy into a sit or down when he is excited for something. We are also maintaining a sit for going in and out of spaces with no leash grabbing.
We have learned how to “out” our ball reliably, which is absolutely necessary since Bear is a Fetch fanatic!!
We have learned how to greet people without jumping and mouthing. We have experienced LOTS of things including loud machinery, baths, vet visits, long car rides, boarding in new places, and playing in the creek.
We have improved our house manners, and we have made dog friends, which is something he never had!
And the journey isn’t over for Bear!! We will continue to develop the skills he already has while we introduce new things to make him even more well-rounded.
And the BEST news is, Bear made so much progress that he was able to become part of the foster program with MidAmerica Rottweiler Rescue, so he is now available for adoption to the right person ❤️. This was all made possible by a generous sponsor who stepped up for Bear when he lost his human Dad.
He has been a delight to work with and I am SO PROUD of how far he has come. He is well on his way to making a great companion for someone!!
Stay tuned for more updates as this handsome boy continues to shine with all the support from those who love him and are invested in his future!!
If you’re interested in adopting Bear, please go to adoptarott.org for more information. At this stage of his development, Bear will do best with an adopter who has Rottweiler breed experience and guardian breed training experience that aligns with MARR’s philosophy. He could live in a home with a playful female dog, with proper introductions. He will need to have continued training and we are happy to pair his adopter up with a professional trainer for guidance. He currently would not be a good fit for a home with children or small dogs/pets.
Join me in giving a big paw five to this big goof for all his hard work and progress!! Back to work we go, in the meantime 😁
