Let’s talk about motivation 🐾
Not every dog learns best with treats—and that’s okay. Training isn’t one-size-fits-all. The key is figuring out what your dog truly enjoys and responds to.
For some dogs, toys are far more exciting than food. Others light up with praise, attention, or the chance to move and “do their job.” This can be especially helpful when working on off-leash skills or impulse control, which is so important for reactive dogs.
A lot of behavior challenges actually come from dogs not having enough appropriate outlets to just be dogs. When we give them safe, structured ways to use their natural instincts, you’ll often see a big shift.
One thing I hear a lot is, “My dog doesn’t play with toys.” In many cases, it’s not that simple. It can be because:
• The toy isn’t the right fit for them
• They haven’t been shown how to play in a fun, engaging way
• The toy is always available, so it’s lost its value
• Or they just need more time to build confidence and interest
Every dog is different, and sometimes it takes a little patience to figure out what clicks.
If you’re not sure what motivates your dog or you’re feeling stuck, we’re always here to help guide you and your pup in the right direction 🐶
