We grow fresh microgreens at home, from seed to harvest, with care and daily attention.

A well-known study by the USDA and University of Maryland found that many microgreens contain 4–40 times more vitamins and antioxidants than their mature plant versions
(Xiao et al., Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2012).

Microgreens don’t just grow anywhere. They need the right conditions.

At home, Theodore and George grow their microgreens using:

- special grow lights (to replace sunlight)

- a small greenhouse setup

- controlled temperature and humidity

- regular monitoring and careful watering

This isn’t a “set it and forget it” process.
The trays are checked every day — sometimes more than once.

The boys do the daily work themselves, and dad helps with:

setting up the lights

checking temperature and humidity

making sure everything stays safe and clean

Growing microgreens means responsibility, consistency, and attention — and that’s exactly what they’re learning 🌱

After sowing arugula and broccoli, watering becomes the most important step.

Theodore and George water gently so the soil stays evenly moist, not soaked.
Too much water can cause mold; too little can stop seeds from sprouting.
The goal is simple: moist soil + steady care.

🌱 What’s special about the seeds?

We use organic, non-GMO seeds from a U.S. company, chosen specifically for growing microgreens.

These seeds are:

🧼🌱 Clean Trays = Healthier Microgreens

Every batch starts with a clean setup.

Before planting, Theodore and George prep each tray carefully — because a clean start helps grow healthier microgreens:

• wash with soap

• rinse really well with clean water

• wipe/rinse with white vinegar to help keep germs away

• air-dry completely

• then the trays are ready for planting 🌱

✅ No harsh chemicals — just simple, food-safe cleaning.

Why this matters

Microgreens are eaten fresh. Starting with clean, dry trays helps reduce mold and unwanted bacteria and supports strong, healthy growth.

This is a family project (page managed by a parent) that teaches the boys responsibility, consistency, and pride in doing things the right way.
