We are excited to share that Dr. Kathy Queck, DVM, FAVD, DAVDC will be serving as an instructor for the VPP Academy Clinical Skills (VT26-2001) course on October 20-21, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee.

The VPP Academy is designed to help veterinary practitioners develop their skills and confidence through hands-on learning. Participants will gain practical experience in dental and surgical procedures through focused wet labs led by an outstanding faculty and hosted at the state-of-the-art Viticus Center in Nashville.

Education has always been a cornerstone of HVDOS, and we are proud to contribute to the advancement of veterinary medicine by teaching and mentoring fellow veterinary professionals.

Our three-year residency program provides advanced training in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery, preparing veterinarians for board certification through the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC). 🐾🦷 Ellie's Crown Day! 🦷🐾

Ellie, an 8-year-old 100lb+ Great Pyrenees/Labrador Retriever mix, recently returned to HVDOS for the final step in preserving her tooth: crown cementation.

At her visit, the previously prepared tooth looked healthy and stable, with no evidence of additional fracture. After confirming everything was healing as planned, we proceeded with placement of her custom dental crown.

✨ The crown fit beautifully and was permanently cemented into place. Once secured, we carefully evaluated Ellie's bite to ensure the crown aligned normally with the opposing tooth and functioned comfortably.

In addition to her crown placement, we noted only a small amount of plaque and tartar, mild gum inflammation, and no bad breath, all signs that her oral health is being well maintained.

One of the goals of veterinary dentistry is preserving strategic teeth whenever possible. Advanced treatments such as crowns can help protect damaged teeth, restore function, and allow pets to maintain a comfortable, healthy mouth for years to come.

We're happy to report that Ellie did great during her procedure and is happily wagging her tail at home. Way to go, Ellie! 💙🐾

🦷✈️ HVDOS at the Veterinary Dental Forum! ✈️🦷

Last week, our team had the opportunity to attend the Veterinary Dental Forum in Orlando, Florida, one of the premier educational events dedicated to veterinary dentistry and oral surgery.

We're especially proud of Dr. Kathy Queck, DVM, FAVD, DAVDC, who served as an instructor for an Extraction Wet Lab, helping veterinarians further develop their surgical dental skills through hands-on training. She was assisted by two of our fantastic veterinary dental residents Dr. Jodi Reed, DVM and Dr. Todd Kirks DVM, as well as our Marketing Director, Miguel Morales.

At HVDOS, education is one of our core values. Events like the Veterinary Dental Forum allow us to collaborate with colleagues from across the country, share knowledge, learn the latest advances in veterinary dentistry, and continue raising the standard of care for our patients.

🐾💕 A Special Visit from Niblet

Niblet recently visited our Mount Pleasant hospital for a CT scan, dental cleaning, and the extraction of two teeth. Thanks to advanced imaging, comprehensive anesthetic monitoring, local nerve blocks for comfort, and specialized dental care, she had a smooth procedure and is recovering well.

Cases like Niblet's remind us why we're so passionate about what we do.

Niblet's owner happens to be a veterinarian and surgeon at a local specialty center, and we are always grateful when veterinary professionals entrust us with the care of their own pets. There is no greater compliment than earning the confidence of our colleagues. Whether they are pet owners, referring veterinarians, or specialists themselves, we are honored by the trust they place in our team.

🦷🐾 Protecting the Protectors: Meet Viper 🐾🦷

This hardworking Belgian Malinois traveled all the way from Eastern North Carolina to visit us at the Hospital for Veterinary Dentistry & Oral Surgery for the final step in his advanced dental treatment: zirconia crown placement.

Working dogs like Viper put tremendous demands on their teeth every day. Whether they're involved in detection work, protection, law enforcement, military service, or other specialized tasks, their canine teeth are essential tools of their trade.

✨ During his procedure, Viper received three custom zirconia crowns on teeth #104, #204, and #404.

Unlike traditional metal crowns, zirconia crowns are:

✅ Exceptionally strong and durable
✅ Biocompatible and well tolerated by the body
✅ Smooth and resistant to plaque accumulation
✅ Tooth-colored, creating a natural appearance while providing outstanding protection and function
