Cats require a different approach to dental extractions — and hands-on practice makes all the difference.

Join us September 15th in Harrisburg, NC for our Feline Dental Extractions Level I Lab, led by Katherine Queck, DVM, FAVD, DAVDC.

Did you know all three HVDOS locations are equipped with Cone Beam CT?

At HVDOS, Cone Beam CT (CBCT) allows our team to see dental structures in three dimensions, giving us a much more detailed view than traditional dental radiographs alone.

We use CBCT to evaluate complex dental disease, identify tooth root and bone abnormalities, assess areas that may be difficult to visualize with conventional imaging, and help us plan procedures with greater precision.

For veterinary dentistry, advanced imaging is an important part of best practice—because better visualization means better information, better planning, and ultimately better patient care.

And now, with Cone Beam CT available at all three HVDOS locations, advanced veterinary dental care is closer to home.

What a fantastic day of learning at our new Harrisburg, NC location!

Today’s Radiology Positioning class, offered through our sister company, Veterinary Education Center of Excellence (VECE), was a huge success! Our participants were engaged, enthusiastic, and a truly fun group to train.

Our DVMs are already looking forward to returning next month for our Extraction Lab, while our technicians are eager for the next Oral Charting class. We’re currently looking at early 2027 for our next technician-focused labs and will share dates as soon as they’re finalized.

Behind the Scenes at HVDOS: Anesthesia Monitoring

One of the most common questions we hear is, "Is anesthesia safe?"

Patient safety is our highest priority. Throughout every procedure, your pet is continuously monitored by our doctors and highly trained veterinary technicians using advanced equipment that tracks heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, carbon dioxide levels, and body temperature.

For higher-risk patients, we also collaborate with board-certified veterinary anesthesiologists to provide an additional level of expertise.

Every patient receives an individualized anesthetic plan because no two pets are exactly alike.

🦷 Meet the Doctors of HVDOS: Dr. Noriko Aoi, BVSc, MVSc, Resident

Dr. Noriko Aoi earned her Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) and Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc) in Japan before moving to the United States in 2003. She joined Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007, where she served as a primary care clinician before establishing the college's dentistry service. Over the next 16 years, she developed and expanded the small animal dentistry curriculum while mentoring veterinary students and helping advance dental education.

In 2023, Dr. Aoi began pursuing her long-term goal of becoming a board-certified veterinary dentist through a residency in Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery at HVDOS. She is also the recipient of the Zoetis Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award and is a certified facilitator in veterinary healthcare communication.

We are proud to have Dr. Aoi as part of the HVDOS team. Her passion for education, dedication to lifelong learning, and commitment to advancing veterinary dentistry make her an invaluable member of our residency program and our hospital.

Behind the Scenes at HVDOS: Recovery

Recovery is just as important as the procedure itself.

After anesthesia, every patient is closely monitored by our experienced doctors and veterinary technicians as they wake up comfortably. We carefully monitor vital signs, manage pain, provide warmth and comfort, and ensure each patient is ready to return home safely.

Our goal is for every pet to recover smoothly while receiving the same attentive care we'd want for our own pets.
