It’s Veterinary Reception Appreciation Week! ā¤ļøšŸ¾

This week is all about our incredible reception team the voices you hear on the phone, the faces that greet you at the front desk, and the people who help guide you (and your pets) through every visit.

They’re the ones calming nerves, answering a million questions, juggling a nonstop schedule, and making sure both you and your pets feel cared for from the moment you walk in.

We see firsthand how much heart, patience, and compassion they put into what they do every single day, and we truly couldn’t do this without them.

We’re so grateful for each and every one of you šŸ’“

Reese came in with swelling from his face down to his neck—and after a closer look, we found the surprising cause: a 3-inch stick lodged under his tongue! 😳 After safely sedating him, our amazing doctor removed the stick, flushed the area, and left it open to heal. Reese went home with pain meds and antibiotics and is already doing great just one day later!

His owners knew something was off when he suddenly lost interest in his favorite game of fetch—a great reminder of how well you know your pet’s normal behavior. 🐾

Friendly tip: if you’re able, occasionally check your pet’s mouth—sometimes the problem is hiding in plain sight!

Do you ever wonder what really happens when we take your pet ā€œto the backā€?

It usually involves sitting on the floor, sharing secrets, and giving lots of pets and cuddles šŸ’•

Maine C***s are absolutely stunning cats, but did you know they’re also predisposed to heart disease?

The most common condition we see in this breed is Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). In Max’s case, he was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HOCM). This condition causes the muscular walls of the heart to thicken, making it harder for the heart to pump blood effectively.

HOCM can lead to serious complications such as congestive heart failure, blood clots, and even irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias). Early detection and monitoring are key to managing the disease and improving quality of life.

We were so happy to help Max and his wonderful family find answers and get him started on treatment to manage his condition. We also couldn’t get enough of his polydactyl toes and his truly regal Maine C**n personality.

Routine check-ups and regular heart auscultation are incredibly important, especially for breeds that are genetically predisposed to cardiac disease. Yearly exams can help us catch conditions like this early and start treatment before more serious complications develop.

If your pet has been diagnosed with cardiac disease we are happy to help get you scheduled with one of our wonderful cardiologists and get your pets care started šŸ’“

We loved seeing our favorite wrinkly duo, Lucy and her sister Roxy, who had a visit with our Internal Medicine team—followed by a special appearance from Moose (one of our technician’s own pups!). It was basically a pug party, and we were here for every snort, wiggle, and tail wag. šŸ’“

Archie sniffed around and found out! Fish hooks can be tricky, and once they have punctured the skin they are difficult to get out. Once Archie’s parents noticed they brought him to us.

We gave Archie a touch of sedation and then removed the hook. Archie’s mom sent us these lovely photos and showed us how he is resting at home all cozyšŸ’“
