🔴 EDIT — JAX HAS BEEN REUNITED WITH HIS FAMILY! ❤️🐾
God sees and hears all, and He answered everyone’s prayers! 🙏❤️
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who prayed, shared posts, and had my back throughout this entire week. Your love, prayers, and support have meant more than words can express!
Thankfully, this week ended on a happy note, and I couldn’t be more grateful! ❤️
I pray everyone has a blessed, happy, and peaceful weekend! 🐾❤️
Since there seems to be some confusion and plenty of discussion surrounding the missing dog, Jax, I am going to address the situation myself.
I am the groomer and owner of Doggy Style Baths & Grooms, and YES, I am the groomer who picked Jax up from his home, just as I have done many times before.
Jax has been a client of mine for quite some time. He is normally a very sweet boy, but he also has medical issues, including seizures and episodes of body pain and discomfort. When he is having a bad day or experiencing pain, he can become defensive and reactive to being touched, sometimes resulting in biting. His owners are aware of these episodes, and I would hope they know that I have always done my best to handle him with patience, understanding, and as gently as possible.
Now, let me clarify a few things.
Jax was not wearing his regular collar because it had been left at the salon after his previous appointment. Collars are removed while dogs are kenneled for safety reasons and are not put back on until pickup.
Jax DID have a slip lead on. It was not being pulled tight or used to drag or force him out of the vehicle.
As he stepped down from the back seat, the shift in his weight appeared to cause him discomfort, and he suddenly became extremely distressed and defensive.
Once Jax has one of these episodes, it can take a considerable amount of time for him to calm down. He does not tolerate feeling restrained when he is already uncomfortable or frightened.
During this episode, he managed to back out of the slip lead. I was not going to intentionally hurt him, pull harder, or cause him additional distress by forcing him into a position that could have resulted in further injury or someone being bitten.
Unfortunately, Jax then jumped out of the van, reacted toward my toy poodle, who was outside using the bathroom, and ran off.
I IMMEDIATELY went after him on foot. A bystander also attempted to help catch him, but neither of us was successful. My husband’s cousin and my daughter spent HOURS riding around town on scooters searching for him.
My family has made numerous attempts to locate Jax on foot, by bike, and by scooter, and we will continue looking for him.
This was an extremely unfortunate turn of events, and I am not denying that Jax escaped while in my care.
But there is a difference between taking responsibility for an unfortunate incident and allowing people to assume that an animal was intentionally hurt, neglected, or mistreated.
Animals cannot speak to us. They cannot explain where they hurt, what frightened them, or why they react the way they do. Even animals we know well can behave unpredictably when they are in pain or frightened.
This is exactly why grooming businesses have safety policies, waivers, and procedures in place. We work with living animals, not machines, and no amount of experience can guarantee that an unexpected situation will never occur.
I am a groomer, but I am also a human being. I care about the animals entrusted to me, and I have spent time and effort trying to find Jax. I would never intentionally put him or any other animal in harm’s way.
So, to clear up any remaining confusion:
YES, the groomer involved was ME, the owner of Doggy Style Baths & Grooms.
I am not hiding that fact, and I am not asking anyone else to take responsibility for what happened.
And for anyone concerned about continuing to use my services, fear not. I will be moving my salon out of town next week, as has already been planned and announced.
My clients are more than welcome to continue supporting me at my new location, and I will be grateful for every single one who chooses to do so. Those who no longer feel comfortable are absolutely free to take their business elsewhere, including to Abbie’s Pet Grooming here in town since she seems to feel affected by this due to questions , concerns , and comments .
There are no hard feelings.
I am not going to argue with people on Facebook over a situation they were not present to witness. I have explained what happened, and I stand by the fact that I did not intentionally harm or mistreat Jax or put myself in harms way .
At the end of the day, the most important thing is that JAX IS STILL MISSING, and I would much rather see the energy being spent discussing who is to blame directed toward helping locate him and get him home safely.
My family and I will continue doing our part.
I hope this helps clears things up. 👍 Abbies Pet Grooming
