We are a family based Veterinary Practice that cares for small pets and exotics. Our goal is to provide quality loving care for your best friend.

At Brookview, we are more than just a hospital. We are here to listen, as well as educate. Our staff’s goal is to make your pet’s experience as stress and pain free as possible. The pets are all cared for by compassionate, loving technicians. Dr. Smith, Dr. Rachael, and Dr. Bella have unbelievable “bedside manners” and a great love for animals. The office has three clinic cats that love everybody:

Ices, a snow white cat, Dante, a huge black cat, and Tica, a petite calico who plays the role of office greeter. All of our clinic cats are rescues who now lead very charmed lives. In our office you may meet our Umbrella Cockatoo, Juliet, who loves attention. She will let most everyone pet her and will sometimes even go on your shoulder. Dr. Smith is her favorite person though, so don’t be offended if she leaves you when she sees him.

Our Pet of the Week is Honey! An 11 year old miniature Dachshund, Honey is a “heart healer” for her human. Her owner tells us that, atypical for a dachshund, this sweet girl does not bark and is not food motivated, but that she definitely got the Dachshund stubborn streak!

We are “Getting to Know Your Breed” the Shetland Sheepdog, also known as a Sheltie! Show off your Shelties in our comment section!

The Shetland Sheepdog, is an extremely intelligent, quick, and obedient herding breed that originated from Scotland's remote and rugged Shetland Islands. Shelties bear a strong family resemblance to their bigger cousin, the Collie. The Shetland Sheepdog is a small, active, and agile herding dog.
The long coat of the Sheltie is harsh and straight, with a dense undercoat. This profuse double coat means Sheltie’s shed considerably. Owners must be prepared to brush the coat weekly, and more often during shedding season. Shaving double coated breeds is not recommended, if it can be prevented, because the coat protects against sunburn and heat as well as cold. The Sheltie coat comes in black, blue merle, and sable, with white markings.
Shelties are active and athletic, and while they need a moderate amount of exercise they are also very adaptable to their family's way of life. They do well as city dogs as long as owners provide sufficient exercise. They enjoy outings with their people that will exercise both their mind and body. Shelties enjoy and excel in many canine events, including obedience, agility, herding, and tracking, and they shine as therapy dogs. They are sensitive and affectionate family dogs, highly in tune with the mood of the household. They like to bark and tend to be reserved toward strangers, qualifications that make them an excellent watchdog.

Spring is in full swing at Brookview, which means our office is very busy and our schedule fills up fast! We are currently booking out over a week for routine wellness visits to ensure we can also still meet the needs of patients with unplanned illnesses and injuries. Remember when you’re calling to plan accordingly and please be patient and kind to our team members who are doing their best to accommodate everyone!

This handsome Pet of the Week is Thor! Thor is a 17 week old Maine C**n. His mom tells us Thor is a big cuddle bug who loves his sisters, his spring toys, and being cradled like a baby!

Join us in welcoming and “Getting to Know” our newest veterinary assistant, Emerald!

Emerald joined our Brookview family in April of 2026! She lives outside of Mason City on an acreage with her fiancé where they raise mini donkeys and has a large variety of animals including her blue heeler, Marvel, mini highlander cross, Orval, and rescue cats, Finn and Simon. Emerald loves everything outdoors, as long as it's warm. A graduate from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, she also enjoyed working cattle and training horses until she moved back to Iowa to be close to family. Her first true love will always be animals. With her many years of experience in the veterinary world, we are excited to welcome Emerald to Brookview and she is looking forward to meeting all of you and your fur kids!

Our Pet of the Week, Daisy, was too busy saying hello to everyone to want to pose for a photo, but we got one in the end! Daisy is a Blue Lacy, a working dog breed that originated in Texas. Her dad tells us Daisy is a sweet girl who likes to run and chase birds!

Our first heartworm POSITIVE test of the year. Heartworms are a parasite transmitted by mosquitos that live in the animal’s heart and is fatal if left untreated. A mosquito bites an infected animal then bites your pet, transmitting the disease to pets who are not protected with preventatives. Positive heartworm cases are becoming more prevalent in our area every year. A routine Spring test revealed this dog’s infection, even though they were not yet symptomatic. With early detection and treatment, this pet has the best chance of recovery. Make sure to get your dog’s scheduled and on preventatives if you haven’t already!

Bentley is our Pet of the Week! This happy boy is a 4 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. His dad had Bentley show off some tricks for us, proving he is not only sweet but smart too!
