But a friendly reminder from your veterinary team: it’s HOT out there! 🥵🐾

☀️ Keep outdoor adventures shorter during the hottest parts of the day

🚗 NEVER leave your pet in a parked car
❤️ Watch for signs of overheating like excessive panting, weakness, drooling, vomiting, or confusion.

Have fun, stay cool, and make some memories with your favorite furry friends! From all of us at Chilhowee Vet, have a safe and happy holiday weekend! ❤️🐾

Scout wanted me to tell you about our new product..

Meet BRAVECTO® QUANTUM! 💙

We’re excited to offer a new way to protect your dog from fleas and ticks! 🎉

Introducing BRAVECTO® QUANTUM from Merck Animal Health — a simple, convenient injection that provides *up to a full year of flea and tick protection with just ONE visit!* 🐶🦟

✨ Why we’re excited about it:
• 💉 One quick injection instead of remembering monthly doses
• 🗓️ 12 months of protection against fleas and several important tick species
• 🐜 Helps prevent flea infestations by killing adult fleas before they can lay eggs
• 🏥 Administered by your veterinary team, so we can help make sure your pet stays protected
• ❤️ A great option for families who sometimes forget monthly preventatives

And because fleas and ticks don’t take the winter off, year-round prevention matters! Especially here in East Tennessee, where our pets can encounter ticks throughout much of the year.

BRAVECTO QUANTUM is approved for dogs and puppies 6 months of age and older.

Interested in making flea & tick prevention one less thing to remember? Ask our team about BRAVECTO QUANTUM at your pet’s next visit! 🐾 We are also offering a one time discount for clients who are choosing to do a Pro Heart and Quantum injection together, assuring your 12 months of heartworm and flea/tick prevention is working to protect your dog before you even leave the office!

*BRAVECTO QUANTUM provides 12 months of protection against fleas, black-legged, American dog, brown dog, Asian longhorned, and Gulf Coast ticks. It provides 8 months of protection against lone star ticks. Individual pets should be evaluated by their veterinarian to determine the most appropriate parasite prevention. Fluralaner products are in the isoxazoline class, which has been associated with neurologic adverse reactions including tremors, ataxia, and seizures.*

Today, East Tennessee feels a little quieter. 💔

Dolly Parton was so much more than a country music legend. She was one of our own—a girl from the Tennessee mountains who never forgot where she came from or the people who helped shape her. Her generosity touched children, families, communities, hospitals, disaster victims, and countless lives right here in East Tennessee and far beyond.

She had a remarkable gift for taking the success she earned and turning it into hope for someone else.

And honestly, we think that's a lesson worth carrying into our own little corner of the world.

Every day in veterinary medicine, we get the privilege of caring for beings who can't tell us where it hurts, who can't thank us with words, and who simply trust us to help. 🐾

Maybe that's part of Dolly's legacy, too—kindness doesn't have to be grand to matter. Sometimes it's a book in a child's hands. Sometimes it's helping a family or community rebuild after disaster. Sometimes it's a comforting hand on a frightened pet, a little extra patience, or doing whatever we can to make someone's day—and their pet's day—a little better.

East Tennessee was blessed to call Dolly one of our own. Frankly, we're all a little better off because she was here.

Rest easy, Dolly. And thank you for showing the world what it looks like to have a truly generous heart. ❤️

“May your dreams be larger than mountains, and may you have the courage to scale their summits." — Dolly Parton

Just A Thank You Note for Your Patience!

Over the last week, our clinic has been a little short on doctors as some of our veterinarians have been attending Continuing Education (CE) opportunities. While this may have meant a few longer wait times, limited appointment availability, or a little extra juggling behind the scenes, we are so grateful for your understanding and patience! 💙

Continuing education is an important part of veterinary medicine and allows our doctors to continue learning, growing, and bringing new knowledge and skills back to the care of your beloved pets. 🐶🐱

We know that your time is valuable, and we truly appreciate everyone who has shown us kindness, flexibility, and grace while our team has worked hard to continue providing the best care possible.

Thank you for trusting us with your furry family members and for being such an important part of our clinic family! 🐾💙

Annie wants you to know, that a lot can change in a year… even when your pet seems perfectly healthy!🐾

Our pets can’t always tell us when something is wrong, and many health concerns can develop quietly before obvious signs appear. That’s why annual physical exams and wellness checkups are so important!

During your pet’s wellness visit, we can help monitor things like:

🩺 Weight and body condition
❤️ Heart and lung health
👀 Eyes, ears, skin, and teeth
🐾 Mobility and joint health
🦷 Dental concerns
🔬 Early signs of illness or disease

Preventative care gives us the opportunity to establish what’s normal for your pet and, when possible, catch changes early.

Think of your pet’s annual physical exam as a yearly check-in to help make sure they’re feeling as good on the inside as they look on the outside.

📅 Has your pet had their annual wellness exam this year? Give us a call to schedule their checkup 865-977-6958

(Annie is our honorary clinic dog when her mom aka Dr. Harrison is out of town learning at doctor conferences, and is always a willing participant in our shenanigans- we promise she loves us and her workout leggings and hair ties)

👋 Meet Your Management Team! 👋

Hi, everyone! We realized that while many of you know our amazing doctors, technicians, and receptionists, you may not know the faces behind the scenes helping keep everything running smoothly.

🐾 I'm Courtney (in the yellow), your Practice Manager!
My goal is to make sure every patient, client, and team member has the best experience possible. I oversee our clinic operations and am always happy to help with:
• Client concerns or feedback
• Questions about your visit
• Ways we can improve your experience
• Compliments for our team (we LOVE hearing those!)
• General clinic policies and services

🐾 And this is Kimberly (in the pink), our Office Manager!
Kimberly helps keep our daily operations organized and our front desk running efficiently. She can help with:
• Appointment questions
• Billing or payment concerns
• Medical records
• Prescription and pharmacy questions
• General administrative assistance

We want you to know that we're here for you! If you ever have a question, concern, suggestion, or just want to say hello, please don't hesitate to ask for us. We love getting to know our clients and their wonderful pets! Sometimes you'll see us working up front- but we don't get as many cuddles at check in/check out as the rest of the staff, so feel free to let us have some cuteness too!

🎉 Now for a little fun...

We're starting a Secret Code Word Challenge for the week!

Here's how it works:
🐶 The secret code word is: "ZOOMIES!"

ALL clients who comes into the clinic this week, and says the secret code word to our reception team, AND tells us they saw this Facebook post will be entered in to a drawing to win a fun surprise for their pet! 🎁🐾

Hint: Keep an eye on our page—we may do this again with new secret code words!

👇 Introduce yourself in the comments and tell us your pet's name, if we haven't met you yet! We'd love to say hello!

🐾YORKIES: TINY DOG, HUGE PERSONALITY!🐾

If you’ve ever met a Yorkshire Terrier, you already know… Yorkies may be small, but they certainly don’t act like it! 😂

These little pups are known for their silky coats, big personalities, and plenty of confidence. But there’s more to this adorable breed than meets the eye!

🐶 Yorkie Fun Facts:
✨ They were originally bred in England to hunt rats in textile mills!
✨ Despite their tiny size, they’re often fearless and incredibly confident.
✨ Their beautiful coat is more similar to human hair than typical dog fur and continues growing throughout their lives.
✨ They are intelligent, energetic, and can be surprisingly athletic!
✨ They may be small enough to carry around—but many Yorkies would prefer to believe they’re 10 times their actual size. 😆

❤️ Yorkie parents, you know the drill:
They may weigh only a few pounds, but somehow they manage to take up the entire bed, rule the household, and have everyone wrapped around their little paws!

🩺 A little reminder for Yorkie (and other small breed) families: Small breeds can be prone to certain dental, orthopedic, and other health concerns, so regular veterinary checkups are especially important for keeping these tiny personalities happy and healthy.

Yorkie owners, tell us:
What is your Yorkie's biggest personality trait?
A. Thinks they're a Great Dane
B. Professional lap warmer
C. Runs the household
D. All of the above 😂🐾

🦠 Ringworm: But It's Not Actually a Worm! 🐶🐱

Despite its name, ringworm is a contagious fungal infection that affects the skin, hair, and nails of both cats and dogs—and yes, it can spread to people too!

Here's what every pet owner should know:

🔍 How to Identify Ringworm. Keep an eye out for:
🐾 Circular patches of hair loss
🐾 Red, scaly, or crusty skin
🐾 Broken or brittle hairs
🐾 Mild itching (although some pets aren't itchy at all!)

⚠️ Cats, especially kittens or long-haired cats, can sometimes carry ringworm without showing any obvious signs, making it easy to spread to other pets.

💊 How Is Ringworm Treated? Treatment depends on the severity of the infection and may include:
✔️ Prescription antifungal creams or ointments
✔️ Medicated shampoos or lime sulfur dips
✔️ Oral antifungal medications for more widespread cases
✔️ Cleaning and disinfecting your pet's environment to remove fungal spores

Even if your pet starts looking better, it's important to complete the full course of treatment to help prevent the infection from coming back.

🧼 How to Prevent Ringworm:
✅ Wash your hands after handling pets, especially new kittens or puppies.
✅ Regularly clean bedding, blankets, brushes, and carriers.
✅ Vacuum frequently if a pet has been diagnosed.
✅ Isolate infected pets from other animals until your veterinarian says it's safe.
✅ Schedule a veterinary exam if you notice suspicious skin lesions.

-The Good News
Ringworm is very treatable, especially when caught early! If you notice hair loss or unusual skin changes on your pet, don't wait—schedule an appointment so we can determine the cause and recommend the best treatment plan.

📞 Have questions about your pet's skin? Give us a call 865-977-6958—we're happy to help keep your furry family members healthy from nose to tail! 🐾
