New Nodaway Humane Society NNHS is a no-kill animal shelter and pet rescue in Maryville, Missouri formed in 1985. Your donation helps offset the cost of food, shelter and vaccinations.

NNHS is a nonprofit a 501(c)3 charitable organization that focuses on animal welfare and serves communities in Northwest Missouri. We invite anyone who has interest in promoting responsible pet care in our community, whether you are a volunteer, a donor, a business or pet lover. You can get involved in a variety of ways:

Be a buddy - For $10 each month, you can sponsor a shelter animal. You can also visit your buddy, spending quality time to learn more about its personality. Some sponsors also pay for spaying/neutering to help with the animal's adoption. Be an angel - For $50 each month, your donation will help offset the operating costs of the shelter, including utilities, wages and vet bills. You can sign up as an individual, a family, a business or an organization. Rescue transport - Some of our animals are not adoptable in our community, due to age or medical condition. However, we have located reputable rescue organizations throughout the country who have the time and resources to train these animals for adoption or place them in quality foster homes. The shelter helps transport these animals across the country. You can help by offering your time to drive a short leg of the trip (often 2 hours) to help these animals travel to their new homes. Volunteer - Drop by the shelter and learn about how we care for our animals. You can take them for walks, play with them outside the cages and help us find homes for them. Organize a fundraiser - We LOVE our community, which is full of tender-hearted individuals of all ages who are determined to assist us with our mission. 🐾 Our next group of Puppies for Paroles left NNHS yesterday to begin their 8-week journey being trained by the residents at Maryville Treatment Center!

Our staff is extra excited about this group because it includes our all-time favorite longer-term resident, Endo! πŸ₯°

Believe it or not, Endo was not dog-friendly when he first arrived. Now, he’s decided that every dog must be his friend!

P4P is a unique program between the New Nodaway Humane Society and the Maryville Treatment Center. Selected offenders spend 8 weeks training these dog to learn basic obedience command such as sit, come and stay, be crated and potty trained and improve their ability to walk on leash when greeting people and other dogs.

After graduating from the class, adopters will receive a list of known commands, your dog's test score, graduation certificate and a handwritten letter from your dog's handler/trainer.
P4P dogs are perfect for the individual or family that wants a dog but has a busy schedule and need help in the training/transition department. Because these dogs have been outside of the shelter environment for 8 weeks and living on a schedule with their handler, they can more easily adjust to life in a new home.

We can’t wait to see all that Endo, and the rest of this amazing group accomplish over the next 8 weeks! We’re so grateful for the Puppies for Paroles program and the opportunity it gives these pups to learn, grow, and prepare for their forever homes. 🏑🐾
