🐾 Help Us Learn Where Martinsville’s Feral Cat Colonies Are Located 🐾

🚨SURVEY LINK BELOW🚨

The City of Martinsville has a feral cat population issue, and I want to start working toward a solution.

Right now, there is no established program in the City specifically addressing feral cat colonies. The goal is to find ways to reduce the number of kittens being born while allowing feral and community cats to safely live out the rest of their lives. By getting cats spayed/neutered and returning them to their colonies, we can prevent continued reproduction and, over time, help reduce the overall population.

But before we can figure out where to focus our efforts, we need to know where the colonies are.

That’s where I need your help. ❤️

📍Do you know of a feral or community cat colony in the City of Martinsville?
Maybe there are cats behind a business, in a neighborhood, near a vacant property, around a wooded area, or somewhere else that you regularly see.

I’m asking residents to complete the survey and share whatever information they can about these colonies.

Things like:
🐱 Where is the colony located?
🐱 Approximately how many cats are there?
🐱 Are the cats being fed or cared for by someone?

You do not need to know all of the answers to complete the survey. Any information is helpful.

This survey is about gathering data so we can understand the scope of the problem and identify where help is most needed.

It is not about blaming people for feeding cats or asking that cats be removed.
I truly believe we can make a difference if we work together. This is a big problem, and I am only one person, but I want to start finding practical and sustainable solutions for our community.

If we can identify where these colonies are, we can begin looking at opportunities for TNR, fundraising, grants, community partnerships, and other resources to help control the population.

To say we’re grateful for RACC Team Tommie Richmond Animal Care & Control would be an understatement.

This organization has never once turned away one of our sweet pups from receiving critical emergency care.

They operate completely on donations to do one thing: provide funding to save lives of animals.

DAY NINE and our sad Sweet Potato 🍠 has still not been claimed!

She’s such a good girl and we just can’t understand why she hasn’t been picked up. She spends her days laying around waiting for her parents to come claim her.

If this is your baby, please step forward and help us get her back home.

Next stop finding a home for our sweet old lady!

URGENT NEED FOR FOSTER 🚨

Meet Rue! Rue was found on Wednesday on Corn Tassel Trail in the roadway in critical condition.
Her poor body was covered in maggots and flies, she was thin and lifeless.

We learned Rue had a condition called Pyometra (a life threatening infection of the uterus that if not operated on quickly often results in death)

This sweet old lady underwent emergency surgery to remove her uterus and is healing nicely.

We just need a soft place for her to land - indoors and preferably quiet. Where she can be given her oral medication and rest and recover.

Please share to help us find this sweet girl somewhere safe to land.

Introducinggggg… the cutest pocket rocket you’ve ever seen… 🥁

Meet Royal 👑 (who got her name from the street she was found wandering!)

Royal is German Shepherd, weighing a whopping 46lbs (we call her a mini shepherd!) We estimate she is under a year old. When we found this sweet girl it was apparent she had just given birth but her puppies were no where to be found and no one ever came forward to claim her.

Today Royal got a much needed break from the shelter!
On her doggy day out, she:

👑 visited friends at Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training Academy
👑 got pup cups from Starbies
👑 got a much needed bath
👑 enjoyed lots of loves from everyone at The City of Martinsville VA
👑 Then she wrapped up her day by chewing bones and laying on cozy beds!

Royal appears to be house trained and whines when she’s ready to go outside for a potty break, she loves walks and meeting new people, shakes like she’s being sent to space during car rides (but eventually settles down and lays in the backseat) and demands to stop and get pets from anyone she sees. ❤️

We’ve posted Royal so many times with very little response but everyone comments on how beautiful she is. We know her forever family is out there, and we’re desperately trying to bust her out of the shelter!

If you love German Shepherds, please consider this sweet girl! *we are not held liable if she holds you hostage for constant pets* 😂

This morning we received a call about 6 young puppies abandoned by a dumpster near Rudy’s Upholstery on Memorial Boulevard! It seems they may have been intentionally left behind.

If you have any information about who may have abandoned these puppies or where they came from, please contact us at 276-638-5155 or 276-759-6205.

Even the smallest detail could make a difference. If you know something, please speak up. These puppies deserve a voice!
