Just a bunch of happy shelter pups enjoying playgroup, dreaming of the day they get to spread their wings and fly right into their forever homes! 🥹💜

Speaking of forever homes… HOW did we manage to miss National Make a Dog’s Day yesterday?! 🤦‍♀️🐶

We may be a little late to the celebration, but we’re hoping with the help of our AMAZING community, we can make quite a few dogs’ (and cats’ 😊) days TOMORROW! ❤️

🐾 JOIN US TOMORROW, OCTOBER 24TH! 🐾

📍 Nelson Subaru
🕙 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
🐶 Adoptable dogs & cats looking for love!
❤️ A whole lot of second chances waiting to happen!

Thanks to our incredible partnership with Nelson Subaru and Subaru Loves Pets, our animals have been receiving the veterinary care they need to be ready for their next chapters!

While our shelter will be CLOSED tomorrow, our team will be at Nelson Subaru with some pretty adorable reasons to get out of the house! 🐕🐈

You don’t have to adopt to come show some love! Stop by, meet our animals, say hello, and help us spread the word. Sometimes all it takes is ONE person seeing ONE animal to change an entire life.

They may be free birds in playgroup today, but we’re hoping tomorrow they’ll be HOMEBOUND. 🥹🏡💜

Come help us make a shelter dog’s day. Better yet, help us make their whole LIFE! 🐾❤️

🚨 We interrupt your regularly scheduled scrolling to bring you two things nobody can resist: firefighters and adoptable dogs. You’re welcome. 😉

What’s better than adorable adoptable dogs? Adorable adoptable dogs posing with some of Martinsville City’s finest firefighters! ❤️🐾

But behind these adorable pictures is something that means a whole lot more to us.

First responders spend their days showing up for their communities, and somehow, they still find time to show up for our four-legged friends. Whether it’s lending a helping hand, supporting our shelter, or simply taking a few minutes out of their day to help an adoptable dog get noticed, we are incredibly thankful for them.

❤️ And while we’re handing out thank-yous, we have to give a special shoutout to Officer Frick with Martinsville Police Department/Animal Control!

We’re approaching 10 months of Henry County and Martinsville City sharing one shelter, and what a journey it has been.

We will never forget the heartbreaking circumstances that brought our two communities together. It’s a day that will always hold a special place in our hearts, and one we wish had never happened.

But sometimes, even out of heartbreak, something beautiful can grow.

What started as two communities coming together during an incredibly difficult time has turned into new friendships, stronger partnerships, and a whole lot of people working toward the same goal.

We may have gained more animals to care for, but we also gained more people to care about. ❤️

To our Henry County AND Martinsville City first responders, thank you for being part of our village. Thank you for showing up, stepping in, and reminding us that teamwork doesn’t stop at county or city lines.

And to our Martinsville City firefighters, thank you for being such good sports during our little photo shoot! We can’t promise these pups won’t steal your hearts… or the spotlight. 😂🚒🐾

Now, we know you came for the uniforms, but we’re hoping you stay for the dogs. 😉❤️

Every pup pictured is looking for a forever home! Don’t forget to come see them at our Nelson Subaru event from 10-4 this Saturday! 🐶🏡

🎉🐾 DOUBLE THE LOVE, DOUBLE THE HAPPY ENDING! 🐾🎉

We are SO excited to announce that BIGGIE AND PAC HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!!! 🥹❤️

But wait… IT GETS BETTER!

THEY WERE ADOPTED TOGETHER!!! 🏡❤️

These two boys have been inseparable since arriving at our shelter. Where you found Pac, you could bet Biggie wasn’t far behind! From sharing toys and meals to curling up together every night, their bond has always been something special. 🐶🐶

We knew these boys deserved a happy ending, but finding a family willing to open their hearts and home to BOTH of them makes this one even sweeter!

🚙❤️ Thanks to our incredible partnership with Nelson Subaru for the month of October, both boys received full veterinary care and were ready to start their next chapter! Partnerships like this make such a difference for the animals in our care, and we couldn’t be more thankful!

No more kennel doors, no more wondering what’s next, and most importantly… no goodbyes between best friends. 🥹

To their new family, THANK YOU for seeing what we saw in these two and giving them the greatest gift of all: a forever home together!

Happy tails, Biggie & Pac! You boys hit the jackpot! ❤️🐾

🚐🐾 8 DOGS, ONE SHUTTLE, AND A WHOLE LOT OF TEAMWORK! ❤️

Eight of our shelter pups are hitting the road today for their spay/neuter surgeries! 🎉

We are beyond thankful for our continued partnership with Nelson Subaru, which is making it possible for us to provide these much-needed surgeries to our shelter animals throughout October!

But today’s trip wouldn’t have been possible without a little help from some amazing friends! ❤️

🐾 Officer Frick with Martinsville City — Thank you for meeting our shelter manager bright and early at 5:30 AM to help get everyone loaded and on the road to meet the shuttle! We are so appreciative of your willingness to lend a helping hand, no matter the hour.

🐾 Franklin County Animal Shelter — Thank you for graciously allowing us to fill spots on your shuttle and helping us get these eight pups one step closer to their forever homes!

🐾 Angels of Assisi — Thank you for making this shuttle possible and for providing the veterinary care and surgeries for our pups today!

🐾 Subaru — Thank you for investing in the lives of shelter animals and helping us give them healthier, brighter futures!

As a small municipal shelter, opportunities like this mean more than we can put into words. Spaying and neutering not only helps prepare our animals for adoption but also plays a huge role in preventing future unwanted litters and reducing the number of animals entering shelters.

Eight dogs. Eight surgeries. Eight steps toward a brighter future. 🥹❤️

It truly takes a village, and we’re incredibly fortunate to have such wonderful organizations working alongside us!

Don’t forget! Throughout October, adoption fees are sponsored, and we’re working hard to get our available animals fully vetted and ready for their forever homes! We look forward to seeing everyone at Nelson Subaru Event October 24th from 10-4!

These dogs have recently arrived at our shelter as strays and we need your help getting them home.

Our shelter is FULL. Please, please keep identification on your pets. A collar with a current phone number or a registered microchip can help us locate an owner quickly and get a lost dog back home instead of taking up a much-needed kennel.

None of these guys were found with tags or microchips. Information about where each one was found can be located in the description under their individual photo.

If you recognize one of these dogs, know who they may belong to, or believe one is yours, please contact us or come to the shelter as soon as possible.

Even if you don't recognize them, sharing this post helps!

🐾 CORSOS, COLLIE MIXES, AND CATS… OH MY! 🐾

It’s a BIG day for some of our shelter kiddos! 🎉❤️

That’s right! 3 dogs and a whopping 15 cats are getting spayed and neutered today thanks to our amazing partnership with Subaru Loves Pets this October! 🐶🐱❤️

That’s 18 shelter kiddos checking one VERY important thing off their to-do lists before heading off to their forever homes! 🎉

Of course, none of this would be possible without some pretty incredible people!

❤️ A HUGE thank-you to Dr. K for making the trip to perform these surgeries for us!

❤️ Another HUGE thank-you to our friends at the Martinsville-Henry County SPCA for opening their facility to us and allowing their wonderful staff to help make this happen!

When we say animal welfare takes a village, THIS is exactly what we mean! 🥹❤️

And guess what? This is only round ONE! We have many more spay/neuter trips planned throughout October, and we couldn’t be more excited to give even more shelter animals a head start on their happily ever afters!
