A good turn is so much more than changing direction. Today we worked on using our turns to rebalance the horse, contain the energy, and set up for the next exercise instead of letting the horse get longer and quicker. These small details are what create confident riders and relaxed, responsive horses. It’s always exciting to watch a student begin to feel the difference and see how much smoother everything becomes when the horse is organized instead of restricted.

Mabel has never been shy about telling us what she likes… and heavy hands are definitely NOT it.

Today Bianca worked on using her seat and voice to slow and rebalance Mabel instead of relying on the reins. Watching Bianca learn how to communicate in a way Mabel understands is what it’s all about. Less hand, more feel, and a happier Mabel.

Watching these videos back gave me chills.

Mable tackled her very first bounce today and jumped a height she’s never seen before. What makes me smile the most isn’t the height, it’s watching her confidence grow with every single jump. She’s learning to trust herself, and it’s been such a privilege to be part of that journey. So proud of this mare.

I wasn’t the one teaching the lesson today. 🤍 My student reminded me that when things don’t go as planned, it’s a lot easier to laugh than let it ruin your day.

What a day for Mable. 🤍

This weekend she stepped into her very first jumper show at Great Meadows hosted by A Jump Above, and if you didn’t know it was her first time, you’d never have guessed it.

She walked onto the showgrounds like she’d been doing this her whole life. Ponies flying around, kids everywhere, trainers yelling instructions, all the commotion that comes with a busy jumper ring… and Mable couldn’t have cared less. She stayed relaxed, focused, and took everything in stride.

The best part of the day was watching her owner, Bianca Armenta, pilot her around her very first jumper course together. They rode through with confidence and walked out with an incredible 6th place in a competitive class. Watching the smile on Bianca’s face made every bit of hard work worth it.

Then it was my turn to hop on.

Mind you, this mare had only jumped a total of THREE times at home before this show. I honestly didn’t know what to expect, but she exceeded every expectation I had. She tackled the cross rail division with confidence, answered every question I asked, and made it feel so easy.

Of course, because she’s Mable, she decided the 18-inch division was meant to be done at a canter the whole way around. 😂 She definitely has opinions, plenty of personality, and just enough sass to keep all of us on our toes—but that’s exactly what makes her so special.

This mare has challenged me in the best ways since the day I met her, and watching everything start to click has been one of the most rewarding experiences. I couldn’t be happier for Bianca, who has trusted me every step of the way with her incredible horse. Watching the two of them grow together has been such a privilege.

I’m so proud of this little team and everything they’ve accomplished in such a short amount of time. If this first jumper show is any indication of what’s to come, I think Mable has a very exciting future ahead of her.

Some horses come into your life to remind you that growth isn’t always linear, and Mable has been exactly that for me.

She has challenged me in all the best ways. She’s kept me on my toes from day one, made me think outside the box, celebrate the smallest victories, and learn just as much as I’ve taught. Every ride has been a chance to build more confidence, trust, and understanding together.

Watching her discover that maybe jumping is actually pretty fun has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. Seeing her lock onto a fence with curiosity and confidence after all the work we’ve put in together is exactly why I love what I do.

Training horses is never just about teaching them a new skill. It’s about listening to what they need, meeting them where they are, and helping them believe in themselves. Mable has reminded me of that every single day.

I’m incredibly grateful to her owner for trusting me with such a special mare. It’s been an absolute privilege to be part of her journey, and somewhere along the way I gained so much more than a training client.. Bianca Armenta I gained a wonderful friend. That means more to me than words can say.

I have no doubt this is only the beginning for Mable, and I can’t wait to see where she goes from here. She’s proven that with patience, consistency, and a little faith, horses have a way of surprising you in the very best ways. ❤️

Plot twist: the hunter/jumper trainer try’s barrel racing for the first time… and honestly? I kinda get the hype now 🐎💨

Today was all about learning to find our way, trust the process, and stay balanced through every little challenge along the way. Watching confidence grow ride by ride is one of the best parts of this job.
