A Letter From Our President π©·
Iβve gone back and forth about writing this post, but I think itβs time to be honest with all of you.
Iβve been doing cat rescue since 2019. For years, my life has revolved around fosters, writing grants, cleaning kennels and foster rooms, processing applications, coordinating adoptions, attending events, fundraising, and answering the endless messages that come with rescue. My children donβt remember a time when βcat stuffβ wasnβt part of our everyday lives.
And Iβm not going to lie to you. Iβm tired. Iβm burnt out.
Saving cats has always been my passion, and it always will be.
But as much as I love saving cats, I have to be honest when I say that dealing with people has become one of the hardest parts of rescue.
Iβm tired of the constant cries for help from people who refuse to take even the first steps to help themselves. Iβm tired of the criticism and negative comments when we establish policies and boundaries to keep our rescue functioning. Iβm tired of being disrespected by people and organizations who seem to forget that we are volunteers trying to do the best we can with the time, money, and resources we have. Iβm tired of feeling like every problem someone encounters automatically becomes my responsibility to solve.
We cannot save every cat. We cannot fix every situation. And we cannot continue to pour from an empty cup.
We are two people. Two women with families, responsibilities, homes, personal lives, and our own limits. We have given so much of ourselves to this rescue, often putting our own needs and plans on the back burner.
I want my life back for a little while. I want to enjoy my home without constantly caring for animals beyond my own pets. I want to spend time with my children without feeling guilty about the messages I havenβt answered or the next animal who needs somewhere to go. I want to stop checking social media 30 times a day. I want to take a day off without feeling like Iβm letting someone down. I want to be able to say, βI canβt helpβ without carrying the weight of someone elseβs disappointment.
And I want to remember what it feels like to live a life that doesnβt revolve around rescue.
So, with heavy hearts, Krista and I have made the decision to put A Little TLC on hold.
This is not a goodbye. Our 501(c)(3) will remain active, and we will not be deactivating our pages or disappearing from the community permanently. However, we will be stepping away and going radio silent for the foreseeable future. We will not be taking on rescue responsibilities during this time, and we need everyone to respect that boundary.
This break is not because we no longer care. It is because we care so much that we have given more of ourselves than we can continue to sustain. We need time to rest, recharge, and reconnect with the parts of our lives that have been waiting patiently for us to make them a priority again.
Life changes. Priorities change. Sometimes, we have to recognize that even the things we love most cannot always come first. I refuse to let rescue consume every part of my life or allow my children to continue sharing their mom with an endless list of obligations. They deserve my time, my attention, and the memories we still have to make together.
Rescue will always be a passion of ours, but it does not always have to be our obsession.
I know this decision may create conversations, opinions, and speculation. That is okay. We understand that not everyone will agree, and we cannot control what others choose to say. But at the end of the day, only Krista and I know what this journey has required of us, what it has taken out of us, and what our families need from us now.
To everyone who has supported A Little TLC over the years, thank you. Thank you for donating, sharing our posts, attending our events, adopting our cats, cheering us on, and believing in what we do. Thank you to every person who has opened their home to one of our babies and given them the life they deserved. You have been part of something truly special, and we will never forget that.
We are proud of the lives we have changed. We are proud of the cats who are sleeping safely in their homes tonight because someone cared enough to help. And we are proud of everything we have built, even if we need to step away from it for a while.
For now, we are choosing rest. We are choosing our families. We are choosing ourselves.
Until we see you again. π©·
With love,
Katie & Krista
