🐾 What is AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Certification?🐾

The AKC Canine Good Citizen(CGC) is a nationally recognized certification that shows your dog has the skills to be a polite, well-mannered member of the community. 🐶✨

The CGC test focuses on 10 everyday skills, including:
✔ Accepting a friendly stranger
✔ Sitting politely for petting
✔ Walking nicely on leash
✔ Staying calm around other dogs
✔ Coming when called
✔ Remaining confident with distractions

Why does it matter?

🐾 Builds confidence in everyday situations
🐾 Strengthens the bond between you and your dog
🐾 Creates reliable manners at home and in public
🐾 A great foundation for therapy work, advanced training, or simply a well-behaved companion

Whether your goal is better manners, more confidence, or earning that official certification, **CGC is an amazing milestone for dogs of all ages.**

At Dog’s Got Talent, we love helping teams prepare for the CGC test and feel confident every step of the way. 💙

Too cold to play outside? Try these indoor enrichment ideas to keep your dog happy, calm, and mentally stimulated ❄️🐶

Frozen Kong treats — Fill a Kong with peanut butter, plain yogurt, canned pumpkin, or mashed banana, then freeze. Longer-lasting and super satisfying for chewers.

Lick mats — Spread a thin layer of wet food or purees on a lick mat and freeze or serve chilled. Great for calming, slowing down meals, and nose work.

Puzzle feeders & snuffle mats — Hide kibble or small treats for your dog to sniff out. Excellent for mental exercise and reducing boredom.

Shell game / hidden treats — Hide a treat under one of several cups or in folded towels and let your pup find it. Builds problem-solving skills.

Training sessions — Short, frequent sessions teaching new cues or tricks tire their brain quickly. Use high-value treats and keep it fun.

Scent trails — Drag a tasty treat along the floor to create a scent trail for your dog to follow — indoors or down a hallway.

Interactive toys — Toys that dispense treats or require manipulation keep paws and minds busy (rotate toys to keep interest high).

Frozen bone alternatives — Freeze low-fat broth in a durable toy or ice cube tray with kibble inside for a crunchy, chilly snack.

Gentle indoor play — Tug, soft fetch down a hallway, or target games that won’t risk slipping on icy paws.

Calming stations — Create a cozy hotspot with a favorite blanket, a chew toy, and a lullaby or white-noise to help them relax after activity.

❄️Quick tips:

-Always supervise frozen treats for aggressive chewers.
-Use dog-safe ingredients (no xylitol, grapes, chocolate, or onion).
-Rotate activities to prevent boredom and keep enrichment fresh.
