Carolina Pyr Rescue

Carolina Pyr Rescue Carolina Great Pyrenees Rescue makes second chances possible for abused, abandoned, and at-risk Pyrs in North & South Carolina.

Our volunteer-based organization rehabilitates and rehomes over 100 Pyrs each year -- and have been since 1992! We advocate for the breed and educate others about the proper care of these “gentle giants.” We also serve as a resource for Pyr owners throughout the region whether or not they adopted through CGPR. We sponsor social events and maintain an on-line presence that enables Pyr people to mee

t and communicate with one another because we believe that celebrating the wonderful dogs who share our homes is an important part of rescue. We are a 501(c)3, licensed to solicit in the state of NC, and have a Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency.

Happy , friends of the Pyrs!

Meet Sally, a sweet young girl who is new to rescue.

Sally is definitely a Pyr mix. She has one dew claw and, at 7-8 months old, is about the same size as the full pups half her age.

We aren't sure what else is in her family tree, and we hope that her adopters do a doggy DNA test and share the results with us.

Until then, we are saying that Sally is a Pyr/ice cream sprinkle mix! 😆

Sally is a social, playful little girl who is best matched with a family who already has active male or female dogs. Folks who take long walks would be great. She has energy! Kids ok!

She will be spayed soon, is vaccinated, and is negative for heartworms.

To meet Sally or any of the wonderful dogs in our care, please read our policies and fill out an application to schedule a meet-and-greet at carolinapyrrescue.com.

Thanks for likes and shares! Let's find sweet little Sally a home!

The rescue Pyrs want to thank Caden for building them a seating area and flower bed. This was his Eagle Scout project.

Potential owners and Pyrs can now walk and sit in this little garden in the woods during meet-and-greets and take some quiet time to get to know one another away from the noise of the rescue!

We think it is Pyrfect!

We hope that like Esme, you are spending your Friday evening with someone you love. 😍😘

We just learned that Milo is still waiting for his .

From his foster dad with Golden Retriever Rescue Club of Charlotte: "He’s come a long way since being rescued. He was house trained when he came into our lives, but the poor guy didn’t even know how to play with toys…now he’s got them everywhere throughout the house (yes he’s been spoiled). He loves the kids next door and has become a bit of a bed hog as he’s definitely a snuggler."

Let's help find Milo a !

Our friends at Golden Retriever Rescue Club of Charlotte have asked us to share the word about Milo, a sweet Pyr mix in their care who deserves a home. Let's help them find Milo's Pyrfect match!

About Milo: He is a loyal, affectionate, and wonderfully quirky young boy who will absolutely steal your heart once he knows you’re his person.

Milo is playful, curious, and smart. He loves squeaky toys, will happily toss them in the air and catch them himself, and enjoys games of fetch and tug-of-war. Daily walks are one of his favorite things — especially trips to the greenway — and he’ll excitedly race down the stairs to wait by the car when he knows an adventure is coming. After a good 30-minute walk, he’s content to relax and soak up affection.

In the home, Milo is fully housebroken and does well with free roam. He’s learning his manners and already knows “sit,” is working on “stay,” often comes when called, and understands “go do your business.” He walks beautifully on leash and rides well in the car, settling in quickly for the drive. He also does fine in a crate, barking briefly before settling when he can see people or outside.

Milo is deeply devoted to his people. He loves pets, floor-time cuddles, and will literally climb into your lap to rest his head on your shoulder. At night, he sleeps on the floor in the bedroom and occasionally gets up to “patrol,” making sure his family is safe — classic Great Pyrenees behavior. Watching him prance around the yard on patrol is truly something special.

Because of his past and his strong guardian instincts, Milo needs a calm, structured home. He is protective of his space and can become reactive when unfamiliar people enter the home or yard, especially when the doorbell rings. Slow introductions are important, and he will do best with experienced dog owners who understand guardian breeds and are committed to continued training. A large, securely fenced yard is a must so he can roam and patrol to his heart’s content.

Milo would thrive with older kids or adults only, and in a home with limited foot traffic. He may be able to live with another dog — possibly a smaller, calm dog — but introductions must be slow and managed. His experience with cats and young children is limited, so caution is advised.

Despite these needs, Milo is an incredibly sweet, loving soul once trust is established. He’s brave, attentive, playful, and deeply bonded to his people. For the right family — patient, experienced, and ready to earn his trust — Milo will be an unmatched companion and protector.

We are celebrating with our Gentle Giants of the Month for May, Kyle and Kiki!

This bonded pair is Pyrfect! They are healthy, social, and sweet. They would be a wonderful addition to an active household of folks who like to walk their dogs or take them to breweries, vineyards, or on other outings.

Kyle and Kiki came to us through animal control after a kind Good Samaritan reported them wandering...for days. Someone clearly dumped them. We don't understand how anyone could do that, let alone to such wonderful dogs.

Interested in meeting K2? Read about our placement process and fill out an application to schedule a meet-and-greet at carolinapyrrescue.com.

Want to help K2 but can't adopt? Help us get out the word about our wonderful Pyrs to those who aren't on social media. Do you have access to a bulletin board at work, your place of worship, gym, or coffee shop? Please print out our Gentle Giant of the Month flyer and post it there and everywhere!
