Let’s talk about frustration in training!!

It’s so easy to get frustrated during training while teaching new commands and your dog just doesn’t understand. The more your dog doesn’t understand, the more he becomes slower to respond, the more you get frustrated.

Dogs are experts at reading body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice. They can sense your frustration and it can make them anxious and create a bad association for training sessions.

Here you can see Ryker not luring and being very slow with a newer command. After getting him in position you can clearly see the frustration from me. When this happens I will always switch my training up with a command he thinks is a lot of fun and is successful at every time.

We chose to switch to the HERE command. This is one of the more upbeat and fun commands for pups because it’s more of a chasing game in the beginning and he always gets a celebration when he gets to me. Right away you can see his response change. After a few rounds of him getting celebrated and praised and his confidence is back up, we head back to the more challenging command.

Training session #2

This is Ryker’s second training session. The first one was kept to 5 minutes the day prior and just basically an introduction to rewarding and name calling.

In this video you will see the beginning stages of “SIT” and focus. At first you can see he doesn’t exactly know what’s going on then quickly he learns during training we are focused, not running everywhere, and calm.

I’m making it clear to praise as soon as his butt hits the ground on his sits and the second his eyes make contact with mine, calling his name and making noises at first to get him to look up at my face.

Within the first minute of this training session you can see how quickly he catches on to the game and begins to automatically offer eye contact quicker.

Once he starts to offer me eye contact pretty regularly, I wait a second longer before I praise and will begin to build up time as we progress.

Now that the weather is not as frigid we are excited to announce our Paws in the Wild Nature walks!!! We understand a busy schedule and maybe your pup needs to exert a little more energy that you just haven't found time for. We will be offering mini pup field trips to parks, hikes, lakes (summer months) etc to let them sniff, run, roll and just be dogs in nature for a while! This is not a dog walking program and does not involve any obedience training it's just an opportunity for dogs to have a safe and fun outlet for their natural insticts!

It is the end of week 2 for Ori and he is officially 11 weeks old!!

We have almost completely removed lures from his SIT and DOWN. And he can FETCH and bring the ball back (inside). His favorite game is still Tug-of-War

We have added STAY and STAND to his cues and we have started with a walking heel (Ferse).

He rings bells to go out and has learned to use the doggy door.

We are still learning self control and he now must offer a SIT to exit the crate, house, or get food put down and we have introduced the WAIT command for food.
