We’ve seen the discussion sparked by one of our recent posts about our adoption fees, and we wanted to take a moment to address it! ❤️🐾
As a private 501(c)(3) foundation, MHF receives NO government funding. Our adoption fees range from $50 to $375 (excluding livestock), depending on the animal’s age and type, and cover only a fraction of the actual costs of caring for and rehabilitating our animals.
Our veterinary team does so much more than just routine exams and vaccines. We’ve performed extensive surgeries, including amputations and enucleations, and help cover costly treatments like heartworm treatment. Add in food, medications, preventatives, supplies, facility upkeep, and daily care, and the expenses add up quickly!
We’re blessed with support from generous donors, corporate sponsors, grants, and revenue from our grooming salon and boutiques, but it takes a village to keep our doors open and continue helping animals in need.
And our commitment doesn’t end at adoption! ❤️ We offer free dog training, send adopters home with vouchers, supplies, and resources, and have a dedicated team that consistently checks in to offer guidance and support whenever needed. We want every adopter to feel supported long after bringing their new family member home.
We also believe in preparing adopters for the ongoing financial responsibility of pet ownership, from routine vet visits and preventatives to food, grooming, supplies, and unexpected medical emergencies.
And yes, reduced-fee and waived-fee adoption specials happen OFTEN at MHF! We’ve held multiple specials in recent months and even have more coming up soon! 🐾
We understand that adoption fees can be a concern, and we appreciate the conversation and always welcome feedback. We do so much behind the scenes to care for our animals, support our adopters, and make room for the next animal in need. ❤️
