π€πΎ Nelson is a categorical nerd. He is attentive, smart, motivated, and all the other things that make up a good student. On top of that, he is as social as a prom king! ππ He could easily win an election for Most Popular because he puts himself out there to make friends with everyone.
It may still be an ongoing challenge to keep him from yelling, "HEY, BRO, I'M OVER HERE! GOOD TO SEE YOU! HOW'S THE FAMILY?" ππ£ But even that has continued to improve with each class. He's learning that he doesn't have to announce his arrival to the entire room to make friends. Progress, Nelson! π€£π
Nelson is a professional at loose-leash walking (unless he feels left behind the pack πβπ¦Ί), being handled by anyone, and showing so much improvement with his "Not yours" cue (a.k.a. leave it). ππ The one skill he surprised us by ignoring this summer was his recall. Mom is, of course, the most important person to him, but BIG SMELLS were making it hard for him to hear. ππΏ
After a lot of practice, he showed that smells are now just a little bit distracting from Mom. ππ The nose may have a job to do, but coming when called is still part of the job description!
In all seriousness, Nelson is the type of dog everyone wants to have in class. β€οΈ He's well-rounded but just imperfect enough to keep trying hard. He's smart, social, eager to learn, and willing to put in the work. And honestly, that's what training is all about! π§ πΎ
ππ Congratulations on graduating Junior Dogs, Nelson! ππ
I can only imagine what big things you still can and will accomplish in this life, Mr. Popular! Keep learning, keep making friends, and remember: sometimes the best response to a smell is, "Thanks, I'll sniff that later. MOM'S CALLING!" ππ
