This week we’re cheering for the vet techs, assistants and support staff who show up for horses every single day! Their skill, patience and heart shape every visit, recovery and positive outcome. 🌟

Happy National Veterinary Technician and Assistant Appreciation Week! Tag a teammate who makes your barn calls better, and send some love to our friends at AAEVT-American Association of Equine Veterinary Technicians and Assistants 🙌🩺

We are so honored to be asked to help teach students for the last 5 years!

We are thrilled to welcome 35 veterinary students (2nd & 3rd years) from 7 different vet schools—UW-Madison, Illinois, Iowa State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mizzou, and Purdue—to our clinic this Friday and Saturday! 🐴✨

They’re joining us for our 5th Annual Student Symposium: "Preparing for a Successful Life in Equine Practice."

A massive thank you as well to the 12 visiting clinicians and practices from across the country who have traveled here to mentor, support, and lead this weekend’s sessions. We’re looking forward to an incredible two days of learning, networking, and growing the future of equine medicine! 🩺

Dr. Lara is teaching Veterinary Students how great being a large animal veterinarian is this weekend in Wisconsin. The office will be open for medication refills Thursday and Friday but there will be NO doctor available until Monday morning. If you have an emergency with your animal, you will need to call ahead and haul your horse to either Copper Country Vet in Atlantic Mine, Michigan or Great Lakes Equine in Hortonville, Wisconsin. Dr. Lara will have her phone with intermittent ability to check it so you may also call our office and leave a voicemail with information to see if it can be managed with telehealth.

Pull out your trailer just in case or have a buddy you can call with a trailer if you have an emergency and need to haul them to care.

Check out these fast dogs this weekend!

Ever wondered what sled dogs do when there’s no snow?

Come find out at the UP200 Dryland Dash this weekend! Instead of sleds and snow, teams take to the trails with wheeled rigs, bikes, scooters, and their own two feet.

It’s fast, loud, a little chaotic, and a whole lot of fun to watch. Come cheer on the teams, see the dogs in action, and get a taste of sled dog racing before winter arrives.

Spectators are welcome (it’s free!) and you don’t have to know anything about mushing to enjoy the races.

Don't Break Your Vet! Check out this great playlist that the British Equine Veterinary Association has put together with a behaviorist to help positively condition your horse for the "scary vets." Perfect for a Spooky Month. We always try to use positive reinforcement with treats if possible for scared horses. Both Dr. Lara and Dr. Hannah have Fear Free training that we use every day. We have pretty good luck with needle shy horses with improvement over time.
