Just a few of the tools of the trade around here! đŸŸđŸ˜‚

đŸŽŸ The tennis racket: No, we’re not working on our backhand. 😂 This is a simple tool we can use as a barrier for bite prevention if a situation starts getting a little too spicy in the dog yard. It gives us some extra space and helps keep our hands and bodies out of the middle of things.

🐕 The slip lead: Perfect for helping us safely move a dog who may be shy, nervous or unsure about being handled — and equally helpful for corralling those very confident friends who suddenly develop a severe case of selective hearing when it’s time to go inside. 😂

Working with groups of dogs means thinking ahead, reading body language and having the right tools nearby before you need them.

The goal is always to keep things calm, safe and as low-stress as possible — for the dogs AND the humans. đŸ’šđŸŸ

What other behind-the-scenes daycare tools would you like us to show you? 👀

Great pet care isn’t just about showing up. It’s about being present.

Our team gets to know the pets in their care—their personalities, their comfort levels, their routines, and the little things that make each of them unique.

Whether they’re running around playing or simply sitting together for a quiet moment, our team is paying attention.

That’s what we mean when we say we’re more than just pet sitters. We’re a team of trained professionals who genuinely care about getting to know the animals we look after.

And honestly, these four look pretty happy with the arrangement. đŸŸ

Hey, did you know we administer insulin? đŸ’‰đŸŸ

Pet sitting isn’t always just filling food bowls, scooping litter boxes, and handing out treats. Sometimes, our clients need a little extra care—and we’re happy to provide it.

We regularly care for diabetic pets who require insulin injections while their families are away. We can follow your pet’s established medication routine, including properly preparing and administering their insulin at the scheduled time.

And because we’re a team, we make sure multiple staff members are familiar with a pet’s routine whenever possible. That means your pet’s care isn’t dependent on just one person being available.

Having a pet with medical needs can make leaving town feel a whole lot more complicated. Our goal is to make it a little less stressful knowing there’s an experienced set of hands on the other side of that syringe. ❀

Have a diabetic pet and wondering if we can accommodate their care routine? Send us a message—we’d be happy to chat about their needs!

📾 And yes, that’s an actual insulin syringe from one of our visits. The glamorous side of professional pet sitting. 😂

One of the qualities we value most in our team members is a genuine thirst for knowledge.

Pet care is constantly evolving, and there is always something new to learn. Our staff members complete online training, study dog body language, participate in continuing-education activities and learn new ways to make the animals in our care feel safer and more comfortable.

We want people on our team who are curious, coachable and open to doing things differently when they’re presented with better information.
“I’ve always done it this way” isn’t where learning ends—it’s where an important conversation can begin.

The best pet sitters don’t assume they already know everything. They’re excited to keep growing for the sake of the animals who depend on them.

What is something your pet has taught you?

Pet care doesn’t stop when the visit ends.

Behind every visit is a team making sure details are communicated, schedules are coordinated, reports are reviewed, and our sitters have the support they need.

At Stow Road Pet Sitters, our team members always have someone they can turn to. Whether they have a question, need a second opinion, or encounter something unexpected, they know they have support behind them.

Being a great pet sitter isn’t about knowing everything. It’s about being willing to learn, asking questions when you need help, and working together to provide the best care possible.

That’s what being part of a professional pet-care team looks like.

Every young-dog daycare needs a couple of seasoned supervisors. 😂

Meet Luna, our 10-year-old Greyhound, and Benny, our 14-year-old Dachshund. They join us on Wednesdays, which is typically one of our younger—and therefore slightly more chaotic—groups.

While the youngsters zoom, wrestle and make questionable choices, Luna and Benny are perfectly content to hang out, observe the nonsense and occasionally join in when the mood strikes. They’re affectionate, beautifully mannered and get along with absolutely everyone. They’ll also bury you in kisses the second you give them the opportunity.

I have such a soft spot for senior dogs. They still deserve friendship, enrichment and new experiences—they may just enjoy the fun at a slightly different speed.

Luna and Benny may not cause the Wednesday chaos, but they certainly enjoy having front-row seats. đŸ–€

Does your senior pup prefer joining the party or supervising from the sidelines?

We would never hand someone a leash on their first day and say, “Good luck!” 😅

New Stow Road Pet Sitters employees complete extensive shadowing and hands-on training before they begin caring for pets independently.

They learn how we safely enter and secure homes, handle leashes and equipment, read care instructions, communicate with clients, write detailed visit reports and respond when something doesn’t go according to plan.

They also shadow different members of our team so they can experience a variety of pets, personalities, homes and routines.

Every animal is different. Great pet care requires more than memorizing a checklist—it takes practice, good judgment and the willingness to keep learning.

What would you want a new pet sitter to learn before caring for your pet independently?

đŸŸ We have some exciting news to share!

Stow Road Pet Sitters is officially a USDA Registered Class T Carrier under the Animal Welfare Act! đŸŽ‰đŸ¶đŸš—

If your first thought was, “That’s great
but what the heck does that mean?” 😂 You’re probably not alone!

A Class T Carrier is a business registered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to commercially transport animals — including pet transportation where a professional transports your pet on your behalf.

And that’s something we do!

Our registration means we’re responsible for following the federal requirements that apply to the humane handling and transportation of animals in our care.

Why does this matter?

Because professional pet care is about so much more than loving animals. 💚

It’s also about knowing the regulations that apply to our business, maintaining proper registrations, investing in training and continuing education, developing safety protocols, documenting our care, and constantly looking for ways to do things better.

There’s a LOT happening behind the scenes at Stow Road Pet Sitters that our clients may never see — and we’re proud of that.

When you hand us the leash, you’re trusting us with a member of your family. We take that responsibility very seriously. đŸŸ

Did you know USDA Class T registration was even a thing? 👇 Tell us in the comments!
