Our Atlas paid New Beginnings Pet Parlor a visit this week. He is such a good, goofy boy. We are still in progress of trying to heal this injury from intake. But his heart seems to be whole…and that makes mine happy!

Frito Lay is available for adoption through the Vernon Parish Animal Shelter… and tomorrow will be the perfect day to adopt him! Why? He is getting a donated groom in the morning from New Beginnings Pet Parlor 🫶🏻

Hoping and praying that after he is all cleaned up, he will have a home to go to, instead of returning to the shelter. 🙏🙏

From what I know, he is an aussie mix, and has been stuck at the shelter for over 30 days. I think VPAS allows fosters as well. Links for both will be in the comments.

About 8 years ago, our community BEGGED us to save this herd.

These horses were wild horses from the Kisatchie forest, headed to a kill pen. Everybody wanted them saved. Everybody was sharing. Everybody was saying, “Please don’t let them die.”

So Haseya’s stepped up.

And for the last EIGHT YEARS, we have done everything we could to keep the promise we made to them. We’ve kept them together, kept them as wild as safely possible, fed them, cared for them, paid for their pasture, and made sure they stayed healthy.

But this is the part of rescue that frustrates me.

Everybody wants to save the animal in the moment. When the story is heartbreaking and urgent, people rally.

But then time passes.

The animal is safe.

And somehow… they’re forgotten.

These horses didn’t stop needing us just because the emergency ended 8 years ago.

Last week we asked for help with their $1,200 pasture lease. We have raised only about $300.

That leaves us roughly $900 SHORT, and it is DUE TODAY.

And this isn’t some extra expense we can put off. This is literally the land they LIVE ON.

So here we are, 8 years after saving them from a kill pen, looking at the possibility of this herd being homeless because we can’t pay their pasture lease.

And the really scary part? This payment is for JULY. August will be due again in just a couple of weeks. 😭

I’m not angry at anyone. I know everybody is struggling and there are animals needing help everywhere. But I would be lying if I said it wasn’t discouraging.

Saving them was the beginning.

Keeping them safe for the rest of their lives was the promise.

If everyone who begged us to save them back then gave even $5 or $10 today, I truly believe we could get this done.

Please help us keep Pontiac’s herd where they belong. ❤️🐴
