Recently, a very special client left a quiet space in our salon that won’t be filled the same way again.
At 22 years old, Lily wasn’t just our oldest client, she was part of the heart of Rufflections. We watched her change over the years, from bright-eyed and feisty to gentle and wise. We adjusted our hands as she aged. Slower lifts. Softer brushes. Extra towels. Longer cuddles. She trusted us through every stage of her life, and that is something we never take lightly.
Grooming isn’t just haircuts and baths. It’s relationships built over years of routine appointments, inside jokes about “spicy nugget” moments, celebrating good checkups, and quietly supporting families through the hard seasons. With Lily, it was always about making her comfortable, keeping her dignity, and honoring the incredible life she lived.
We watched her age, saw as her joints became stiff and sore, and her eyesight diminished. She reminded us why we do what we do. Most importantly, she showed us how deeply connected we become to the pets in our care.
To Lily’s family — thank you for trusting us with her for so many years. Loving a pet for 22 years is a beautiful legacy. We are better for having known her. Although this post is about our oldest client, we feel this deeply about all of our regulars and have cried many times with clients over the loss. We also think about them with love and fondness years later.
Run free, sweet Little Lily. You will always be part of Rufflections.
