Did you know that April is heartworm disease awareness month? Dr. Gross was reminded just how far heartworms can travel when this one was found free floating in the abdomen during a routine shelter spay today! Heartworms typically reside in the heart and lungs after being bitten by an infected mosquito but they can travel just about anywhere! What a great reminder to make sure to keep your pets on heartworm prevention!
