Oakley is back safe with his mother!

Thanks to Lily's perseverance, she found Oakley exactly where he escaped! Lily had a heck of a day going all around the super 8 motel delivery flyers to every business and even the mobile home park behind dollar general. She's been walking and driving all over. She pulled back into the super 8 motel and saw oakley. He ran to her as soon as he saw her. What a great end to this story.

Our friend Pam found Bonnie (larger red dog) yesterday near Dollar General on 221 S in Glenwood. Bonnie spent the night with us and her mom picked her up this morning.

Oakley is still missing. Pam and owner, Lily, are searching now.

PLEASE SHARE! IMMEDIATE NEED for FOSTERS or even better ADOPTERS! We are OVER capacity and the calls and emails are still coming. We want to save more lives but to do so we have to have fosters and adopters!

Please meet in the first photo two sweet sisters Poppy and Iris. These two came in together and are around 4 months old. They don’t have to stay together, though it would be amazing if they did. Then we have sweet Binx. Binx is the little tuxedo kitten we believe is around 12 weeks old. He was found outdoors by a Good Samaritan that brought him in. She has two large dogs and this little guy is currently having to stay in a room by himself. We would love to get him into a foster or even better adopted. And finally Mac the sweet little orange baby was found on the side of a country road by a rescue partner that has spent her life doing TNR. This person has a heart of gold and was not about to leave this baby in the middle of nowhere. But, she already has four kittens and other numerous cats that she cares for. This fellow needs to go to a more permanent placement.

Behind the Rescue: Why do we ask for fosters? 🐾

North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue doesn't have a traditional shelter. Our animals live in foster homes while they wait for their forever families, which means that when we're asked to help an animal, one of the very first questions we have to answer is: Where will they go?

A foster home is the first, but not the last step toward "yes." We also have to consider medical and behavioral needs, veterinary costs, our current resources, and whether we can realistically support that animal through adoption.

But without a safe place for an animal to stay, we can't move on to the other questions. There is no "backup" foster spot, no secret kennel reserved.

There's another side of fostering that you may not see: sometimes the foster we're looking for is for an animal already in our care.

Adoptions have slowed, and some animals are waiting much longer for their forever homes. Foster families have vacations, work and school schedules change, and sometimes they simply can't commit for as long as an animal ends up needing them. When that happens, another foster stepping in means the animal can safely stay in our care until their forever home comes along.

That's why foster homes are so important to everything we do. They aren't just temporary places for animals to sleep-- they're what make a foster-based rescue possible.

We provide the supplies and support. You provide the love, and maybe a spot on the couch. 🐾

As usual, there have been so many cases of abandoned and injured pets this summer. The rescue is struggling to pay its debts.
