🎉🐾 Happy RVT Appreciation Week to Our Amazing RVTs! 🐾🎉
We want to give a BIG shout-out to our three incredible Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs): Kim, Julie, and Shea! ❤️
Many people may not realize just how much our RVTs do behind the scenes. Their jobs go WAY beyond simply “helping the doctor”! They are skilled & licensed medical professionals who wear A LOT of hats throughout the day. Just a few of their many responsibilities include:
🩺 Patient care & observation: Monitoring patients closely, recognizing subtle changes - especially with pain, and administering the medications they need.
🩸 Blood draws & IV care: Collecting blood samples from 1 pound kittens to 190 pound dogs, placing & maintaining IV catheters, and helping ensure patients receive the fluids they need. (If you work in the medical field, we also wake up from dreams of beeping IV pumps!)😵💫
🔬 Laboratory diagnostics: Preparing diagnostic samples, running in-house blood panels, reading cytologies and helping us get important answers about your pet’s health.
🩻 Radiology: Positioning and taking diagnostic X-rays that help us see what’s happening inside your pet.
💤 Anesthesia & patient safety: Inducing anesthesia, monitoring patients throughout procedures, and watching their vital signs to help keep them safe and comfortable.
🔪 Surgery: Preparing patients, assisting during surgical procedures, and helping care for them as they recover.
🦷 Dentistry: Performing and charting dental cleanings and caring for your pet’s oral health.
📝 Medical records & communication: Keeping detailed medical notes and helping make sure important information about your pet’s care doesn’t get missed.
And that’s just scratching the surface! They also help comfort nervous patients, troubleshoot problems, keep treatments moving, and provide reassurance to pets who have no idea why they’re visiting us in the first place. 🩷
Working with animals isn’t always cuddles and puppy kisses! Sometimes it means getting scratched, nipped, pooped on, peed on, drooled on, or thoroughly beat up by a patient who has very strong opinions about their visit! 😂
