DID YOU KNOW?

BULLSNAKE EDITION!

Bullsnakes may look intimidating, but there’s a lot more to these incredible snakes than meets the eye!

🌬️ They can put on quite the performance!
When threatened, a bullsnake may hiss loudly, flatten its head and vibrate its tail. If the tail hits dry leaves, it can even sound a little like a rattlesnake!

🐍 But they’re NOT venomous!
Bullsnakes are nonvenomous constrictors. They subdue prey using their powerful bodies rather than venom.

📏 They can get BIG!
Adults commonly reach around 4–6 feet long, with some individuals growing even larger.

🐭 They’re natural rodent control!
Bullsnakes eat mice, rats and other small animals, making them an important part of their natural ecosystem.

⛏️ They’re excellent diggers!
Their pointed snout and strong body help them burrow through loose soil and investigate underground rodent tunnels.

🥚 They lay eggs!
Unlike some snakes that give birth to live young, female bullsnakes lay clutches of eggs.

🇺🇸 They’re native to North America!
Bullsnakes can be found throughout parts of the central and western United States and are a subspecies of the gopher snake.

❤️ And yes—they can be kept as pets!
With proper care & handling, captive-bred bullsnakes can make fascinating pets. Just remember: their adult size means they need an appropriately sized, secure enclosure!

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know crested geckos were once thought to be EXTINCT?! 😲

They were rediscovered in New Caledonia in 1994, and today they’re one of the most popular pet geckos!

Here are a few more fun facts:

🌿 They’re built for climbing!
Crested geckos have specialized toe pads and tiny hairs that help them grip smooth surfaces.

👁️ No eyelids!
Instead of blinking, crested geckos have a clear protective covering over their eyes—and they use their tongue to help clean them! 👀

🦎 That tail doesn’t grow back!
If a crested gecko drops its tail, it will not regenerate. A tailless crested gecko is sometimes affectionately called a “frog butt.” 😂

🌙 They’re most active after dark.
Crested geckos are primarily active during the evening and nighttime hours, spending much of their time climbing and exploring.

🐜 They eat more than bugs!
In captivity, their diet can include specially formulated crested gecko diets made with fruit and protein, along with appropriately sized insects.

🏡 They like it vertical!
Because they are arboreal, a crested gecko’s enclosure should have plenty of height, branches, vines, foliage and climbing opportunities.

❤️ And they’re a LONG commitment!
With proper care, crested geckos can live 15–20+ years.

Did you know:

Dwarf hamsters can stuff an incredible amount of food into their cheek pouches!

Their cheek pouches stretch all the way back to their shoulders, allowing them to carry food weighing nearly as much as they do. In the wild, they gather seeds and other treats, then race back to their burrow to create hidden food caches for later.

Have you ever encountered this? We have some who think they are in an eating competition and winning. 🤣🐹

🐾keep your pets safe and injury free 🐾

Also share your pictures!

Hot pavement can exceed 120°F and can be dangerous for your furry friend!

Sidewalks and parking lots can become hot enough to burn sensitive paw pads.
