🐭 DID YOU KNOW? — CHINCHILLA EDITION! 💕
Chinchillas might be some of the softest animals on Earth, but there’s so much more to these adorable little fluffballs! 😍
☁️ SOFTER THAN SOFT!
Chinchillas have incredibly dense fur! While humans typically grow one hair per follicle, chinchillas can grow dozens of hairs from a single follicle!
🛁 NO WATER BATHS HERE!
Chinchillas clean themselves by rolling around in special volcanic dust! 🌋 These dust baths help remove excess oils and keep their fur healthy. Water baths should generally be avoided because their dense fur dries very slowly.
🏀 THEY CAN REALLY JUMP!
Chinchillas have powerful back legs and can leap several feet into the air! They LOVE climbing, hopping, and exploring.
🦷 THEIR TEETH NEVER STOP GROWING!
That’s right! Chinchillas need unlimited access to quality grass hay to help wear down their continuously growing teeth and support healthy digestion.
🌙 THEY’RE NIGHT OWLS… SORT OF!
Chinchillas are primarily crepuscular, meaning they’re most active around dawn and dusk!
❤️ THEY’RE A LONG-TERM COMMITMENT!
With proper care, chinchillas can live 10–20 years, sometimes even longer!
❄️ THEY LIKE IT COOL!
Chinchillas are sensitive to heat and can overheat easily. A cool, climate-controlled environment is essential for keeping them healthy. Chill pads are a good option.
