One of the biggest misconceptions about pet microchips is that they require surgery or anesthesia. They don’t! 🐾

Microchips are actually placed just like a routine vaccine or shot. The process only takes a few seconds, and most pets barely react at all.

✨ No surgery
✨ No anesthesia
✨ No recovery time

The microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is placed under the skin between the shoulder blades using a special syringe. Once it’s in place, your pet can go right back to playing, walking, or demanding treats like normal

That tiny chip can make a huge difference if your pet ever gets lost by helping shelters and vets identify them and contact you quickly.

Tofu is a 2-year-old Pit Bull weighing about 50 pounds. She came to the shelter as a stray, so we don't know much about her past, but we do know she has a bright future ahead of her. At just 2 years old and 46 pounds, Maxxine is one of our staff favorites—and it's easy to see why! This sweet, friendly Boxer mix has a wonderful personality and keeps her kennel incredibly clean. She's the type of dog who makes shelter staff fall in love with her every single day.

With more people out enjoying the beautiful weather, we wanted to remind everyone about the importance of following leash laws and cleaning up after your pets.

🐕 Leash Up!
Even if your dog is well-behaved, keeping them on a leash helps keep them safe and prevents unexpected encounters with people, other pets, wildlife, and traffic. Not everyone is comfortable around dogs, and not every dog is comfortable around other dogs.

💩 Scoop the P**p!
Please remember to pick up your pet's waste when visiting parks, trails, sidewalks, and other public areas. Pet waste isn't just unpleasant—it can spread disease, attract pests, and pollute local waterways.

🐾 A few simple steps help keep Grant County clean and safe:
✔️ Keep your dog leashed and under control.
✔️ Bring waste bags when you head out.
✔️ Pick up and properly dispose of pet waste.
✔️ Be a courteous neighbor and responsible pet owner.

When Hammer arrived at the shelter, he was suffering from the effects of previous head trauma and was in need of medical care. Despite everything he's been through, Hammer has remained a sweet boy who deserves a safe, loving place to heal.
