Remember now is the time we begin to switch our koi 🐟 food. You want to use a weat germ based food when your water temperature is consistently between 50 degrees and 70 degrees. This is considered a cold weather fish 🐟 food. Koi fish 🐟 have a harder time digesting protein in the cold weather. When the water temperature is consistently at 50 degrees, we stop feeding entirely. Water temperature begins to decrease in the fall, your koi's 🐟digestive system begins to slow down as well. Undigested food can lead to infection and other issues with you koi 🐟 or could result in death. It is important to monitor your thermometer in the fall and winter. We like to use a digital laser thermometer. You will need to decrease the amount and frequency of food during the colder weather. Monitoring the water temperature will help you determine how much and when to feed. On the colder days when the water is still above 50 degrees. We try and feed when the fish 🐟 are the most active but still want to minimize waste snd left over food. Once you stop feeding, do not start feeding again until the Spring. Even if the temperature rises for a few days, it is very important to wait for the consistently warm weather in the spring. Consistency is the key!
