In this video we’re doing E collar conditioning for follow and place and I want to make it very clear the E collar is not teaching the dog anything we are not using it to teach anything at all we are using what the dog already knows to teach them what the E collar means and how to respond to it and understand the language what you’re seeing in this clip is I apply the stim before I say anything I hold it for about half a second to a second then I give the command follow the moment the dog turns toward me I immediately release the button mark with yes and reward then I say free to release for place it’s the same process I stand close to the bed apply the stim for half a second to a second then say place the moment the dog gets on I release and reward the goal is applying the stim before the command so the dog feels a sensation they don’t understand yet then hears a command they do understand and the second they perform it the sensation turns off which is how they start to understand the meaning to the E collar this is just one piece of the process but this is what makes what you’re seeing here actually make sense

Biggest misconception about the E collar is people think it trains the dog or automatically makes them off leash it doesn’t the E collar does not teach your dog anything and it won’t benefit you or your dog unless it’s used correctly what actually teaches the dog is the foundation you’ve already built through training obedience communication and clarity are what give the E collar meaning in the future without that foundation the collar means nothing to the dog and you can’t properly use it because there’s nothing for the dog to understand

No obedience is reliable without going through the 3D process. Your dog must be able to hold duration, handle distance, and stay consistent through distractions. Those are the three core foundation pillars in all obedience. Whether it’s heel, sit, down, place whatever position it is your dog has to go through the 3D process to truly understand and stay reliable.

Separation anxiety isn’t just bad behavior and it’s not always just genetics a lot of the time it comes down to how the dog was raised and the patterns we create as owners if a dog is constantly relying on us for comfort and never learns how to be alone or self soothe then the moment we leave everything falls apart not because they’re stubborn but because they were never shown how to handle it it’s the same mindset as raising a kid you’re not just raising them to be good when you’re around you’re raising them to be confident independent and capable on their own that’s why it’s so important to teach your dog how to relax how to exist without constant attention and how to be okay alone not just for your sake but for theirs too that’s where real freedom starts

First step is luring the dog into the sit position. Once they’re acclimated, we move to the next step which is guiding with upward leash pressure and teaching them what that means. We combine step one and step two, using food and leash pressure together until the dog is solid with both. Then we move to step three which is implementing the command. We say sit, then apply upward leash pressure to guide the dog into the position they already understand. Since we’ve already shown them with food and leash pressure, we can start to slowly fade the food out since they fully understand the leash pressure just as much as the food.
Over time, the dog learns that sit means to go into position. We then begin fading the leash pressure as well, only using it if the dog needs guidance & doesn’t follow through once they understand.
This is how we create a reliable sit. but you also have to go through the full 3D process, which is duration distance and distractions to really proof out the sit.

Reactivity isn’t fixed by just teaching a heel, handing out treats, or yanking on the leash. It’s changed by shifting your dog’s mindset, building a solid foundation, and giving them clear structure and understanding. That’s how you create a calm, confident dog that can actually enjoy life and earn true freedom.
