Because June is Foster a Pet Month, I've been reflecting on what fostering dogs has taught me over the years. This is one of those lessons.

We grow more when we aren't navigating everything alone. My dog Queeny has been teaching me this for years.

Queeny grew up with other dogs. First, her mother, Sunny. Then Deno, who was her best friend. For most of her life, she was never an only dog.

When Deno passed away, the house became quieter.

What I've discovered through fostering is that every new dog brings a different kind of energy into the home. Queeny comes alive in a different way. She plays. She teaches. She adjusts. Sometimes she even surprises me with her patience.

It's also a reminder that companionship isn't always about having the perfect match.

It's about having connection.

I think many of us are more resilient, more adaptable, and even happier when we aren't navigating everything alone.

The dogs remind me of that over and over again.

And every foster reminds me what an incredible dog Queeny is. She welcomes each newcomer, helps them settle in, and somehow always finds a way to make room.

That capacity to make room is exactly what dogs like Allegra are waiting for someone to offer. She is ready to thrive in a foster home and is my featured dog through BarkVille Dog Rescue today.

Fostering gives dogs a chance to decompress, learn, and prepare for their permanent home.

BarkVille Dog Rescue covers approved expenses and provides support along the way. You're never doing it alone.

If you're in the Atlanta area and have been thinking about fostering, I'd be happy to tell you more.

And if you're not in a position to foster, perhaps sharing this post will help Allegra find the person who is.

Every time I bring a foster dog home, my routine changes.

Because June is Foster a Pet Month, I've been reflecting on what fostering dogs has taught me over the years. This is one of those lessons.

The first few days are usually the biggest adjustment. The dog needs time to decompress. I need time to get to know them. Walk schedules change. Quiet time changes. Even simple things around the house shift for a while.

Years ago, I would have focused on the inconvenience.

Now I see something different.

The disruption gives me an opportunity to look at my routines with fresh eyes. Some are serving me well. Others are simply habits I've stopped questioning.

I've found that fostering creates space to make small adjustments that often end up being positive for both of us.

Not because the dog needed me to change.

But because change has a way of helping us see things we no longer notice.

And that opportunity only exists because a dog needed somewhere to land while waiting for their permanent home. In the Atlanta area alone, there are always more dogs waiting than there are fosters to welcome them.

That's where Coleman comes in.

Coleman is currently looking for a foster home through BarkVille Dog Rescue.
