Most people assume Ragdolls have ancient roots, but in truth, this beloved breed has a modern origin.

Developed in California in the 1960s by breeder Ann Baker, the Ragdoll started with a white Angora-type cat named Josephine. From there, Baker selectively bred for size, temperament, and that signature “floppy” response when held.
