Happy official 10 year Gotcha Day Joanie!!!!

In May 2016 we started fostering Oneida aka Joan Jett aka Joanie. In September 2016 we made her an official part of our family. She completed our family. And yes, she is our youngest dog.

I have learned so much from this sweet girl, but one of the most important lessons I have learned from her is to enjoy life's simple pleasures; like looking out the window, feeling the warm sun on your face, and appreciating a good sniff.

We love you Joanie!!!!

Meet Hubert Holmes! He is a 15 month old Bouvier des Flandres! Yep, he's a large, adolescent, herding breed. Need I say more?!?

Kudos to his person who is already doing enrichment to meet those herding and problem solving needs. Hubert Holmes already has a solid foundation in basic skills.

My job is to help with those things that happen when even the best behaved puppies become teenagers...they push boundaries, lack impulse control and make terrible decisions. We'll be working on consistency and communication skills so we can get through this phase of development successfully!

Pebbles! I am so proud of this sweet little pup!

I started working with Pebbles and her people several months ago. Pebbles’ family likes to travel and one of their goals is to fly with her. That means helping her feel comfortable in a carrier in a crowded space with things moving by on wheels.

I think we are on the road to success Pebbles is loving her carrier!

When welcoming a new dog to your home, please remember the importance of decompression, management, and reinforcement.

Dogs need some time to decompress, even if they are coming from a foster home. They need to time to settle in and learn about their new home, routines, and family. The rules are going to be different in their new home then they were in their foster home.

Managing your environment helps dogs learn the rules and boundaries. It stops them from practicing a behavior you do not wish for them to engage in. Crates, baby gates, x-pens, and leashes are great tools.

Reinforce the behaviors you want your dog to engage in and continue doing. Treats provide feedback and reward the behaviors you want your dog to repeat.

If you are looking to add a dog to your family, please check local shelters, like Forsyth Animal Services, and rescues. There are so many great dogs looking for home. I offer a 10% discount on all training for dogs recently adopted from a local shelter, the Humane Society or a reputable rescue.
