🐮🤍 Meet Herschel! 🤍🐮

There's a new handsome fella on the farm, and we are already smitten!

Everyone, meet Herschel, our new White Dexter bull calf! 🐂🤍

Herschel is the newest addition to our little herd, and he's already making himself right at home with the girls! We are so excited about what he means for the future of our farm — hopefully some adorable Dexter calves in the years to come! 🥰

He's got the cutest little black ears, a sweet face, and a whole lot of personality!

Welcome to the family, Herschel! 🤍🌾

Just another day on the farm. 🤎

Today was full of hatching quail, raising turkeys and chickens in the brooder, and making homemade jelly from things we foraged ourselves!

We gathered Beauty Berries and Muscadine Grapes and turned them into three different batches:

🍇 Muscadine Grape Jelly
🫐 Beauty Berry Jelly
🍇 Muscadine Grape + Beauty Berry Jelly

We used low-sugar pectin, and they all turned out SO good! There’s just something special about gathering food from the land and turning it into something delicious for the family.

Farm days may be busy, but they sure are sweet. 🌿🐣🍇

We went out and picked beautyberries today and actually ended up using them for a little bit of everything 😂💜

The quail, chickens, and rabbits all got some, and then I saved the rest to make beautyberry jelly and simple syrup.

I love finding things growing around us that we can actually use. It was fun letting the animals try them and then bringing some inside to make something for us too.

Definitely one of those simple little homestead days I really enjoy. 🌿💜

Why We Raise Our Own Meat at Conner’s Heritage Farm

Raising our own meat is not always the easiest choice, but it is an important one for our family.
We want to know where our food comes from, how the animals were cared for, what they were fed and how they lived. Our animals are raised with fresh air, sunshine, room to move and daily attention from our family. We believe that animals raised for food still deserve kindness, proper care and respect throughout their lives.

This way of living also teaches our children valuable lessons about responsibility, hard work, gratitude and the true cost of putting food on the table. Meat does not simply appear in a package at the grocery store. It represents time, care, resources and a life that should never be taken for granted.

Processing an animal we have raised can be emotional, but that emotion reminds us to be grateful, waste as little as possible and honor the animal by using the food it provides thoughtfully.
For us, raising our own meat is about feeding our family wholesome food, becoming more self-sufficient and reconnecting with the land and the traditions that sustained families for generations.

From our farm to our table, with care and gratitude.

We had such a great experience at Wholesome Meadows Farms today for their chicken processing class!

Our kids were able to participate, ask questions, and learn so much through hands-on experience. The owner was patient, knowledgeable, and so willing to teach us every step of the way.

We highly recommend Wholesome Meadows Farms to any family wanting to learn more about homesteading, farming, and where their food comes from!

We bought two processed whole chickens to try and 2 KuneKune piglets to raise.

These two roosters were given to us. I was apprehensive at first, but they are super friendly.

Our sweet girl crossed the rainbow bridge today. She was 11 and a mom to many. She will be greatly missed. Please share an updated picture if you have one of Nali's puppies. We would love to see how they are doing.
