We always say, the dogs can sell themselves, but they can’t save themselves. People save pets.

This maxim was proven true (yet again!) when our very own Rose Virgil (formerly Team OTAT in the Pecos Shelter) accepted the ACO position at a tiny shelter in Winters, Texas, and inherited its lone shelter resident, Link.

Link had been accepted into the shelter just before Christmas in 2023. He been sitting there, waiting, much of that time while the shelter ACO position was unfilled, for 1,039 days. He was waiting for Rose.

We watched Rose walking Link with her dog. We watched him gently nuzzle her four-year-old daughter. We watched him supervise some tiny kittens as they made their first foray into wet food. We watched his hopeful face, looking out the window as he went on a car ride for some afternoon enrichment. Swipe through to watch Link yourself…

We know Rose is a great advocate. Through her, we know Link is a great dog. And so, after 2 years, 10 months, and 3 days, Link got picked up by one of our volunteers along I-20 outside of Abilene, and took his freedom ride into a brighter future.

If this compelling story is all you needed to consider rescuing, Link is more than ready to be adopted. From what we know about his backstory before his shelter stay, he has literally been waiting his entire life.

Link is dog friendly, cat for friendly, kid friendly and people friendly. He’s beautiful on leash and loves the car. He’s 5 years old and 52 lbs. He’s ready to go home.

These sweet adoptable pups will be at Pet Marfa Adoption Center & Pet Supply this week, hoping to steal a few hearts and find their forever homes.

A 60-lb shepherd mix with a gentle side, a love for cuddles, and the potential to be your next walking or running buddy.

🐾 Sunday, 10/18 | 12 to 2pm: Molly
A tiny, scruffy sweetheart (about 10 lbs!) who’s affectionate, curious, and always ready for a cuddle.

We’ve got something for everyone! And they are such a great and deserving group. Including a pug, a super sweet senior pit bull long overdue for a soft spot, a proven foster dog in need of a change, a black pit bull (the ultimate underdog), a big eared little dog, a doodle, a solo puppy, an aussie/pyr mix and a perfect mutt named Bodega. A handful of these guys are small - all are people and dog friendly.

🐾 Tuler - 8 months old, 57 lbs, male pit mix

🐾 Milo - 1-2 years old, 51 lbs, male doodle
🐾 Daffy - 6-9 months old, 18 lbs, female terrier mix
🐾 Roma - 1-2 years old, 15 lbs, female pug
🐾 Bodega - 5-6 months old, 26 lbs, male jack russell mix

We currently only have 6 families fostering so we are hoping to get some dogs out of overfull shelters and into safe homes. There’s a big transport coming up on 11/6 so we are hoping for a commitment til then! With vetting lined up this week these dogs all need foster homes by end of this week or early next week. Meet Arlo! This little West Texas pipsqueak chihuahua mix was born to a stray mama and was kept safe thanks to Good Samaritans there. He’s now in a loving foster home, picking up the fundamentals with help from the resident dogs, kiddo, and cat!

Found napping in the middle of a street... Now she’s stealing hearts from the comfort of a dog bed — complete with pajamas!

Street Dreamer had quite the rescue story (swipe to see her go from the street to foster). When an Animal Control Officer in Presidio spotted a scruffy little dog lying in the middle of the road, it was enough to give them a heart attack. But Street Dreamer? She was just catching up on her beauty sleep.

After a ride in the Animal Control truck and a stint looking like a tumbleweed fresh off the West Texas streets, this little girl has traded the pavement for soft beds, cozy laps, and the occasional colorful onesie.

At just 1–2 years old and 12 pounds, Street Dreamer is a tiny terrier mix with a talent for making herself right at home. And now that she’s gotten a taste of the good life in foster care, we think she’s ready for her dreams to come true.

A home of her own.
