While we’re super partial to big dogs, we got a thing for little dogs too. 🫣 Soybean was in the kennel next door to our big guy Great Northern and you know we don’t go all the way to Van Horn unless we’re emptying the shelter, so there you have it. Big dogs, little dogs, in between dogs. We love all the dogs! And we hope someone loves Soybean too.

UPDATE!! FOSTER PUPPY FOUND!!! Turns out he was in his foster home all along!! Just tuckered out from a big first day in foster care and found himself a safe little hiding spot to take a very deep sleep nap in!

CALL FOR CRATE DONATIONS!! We’ve got around 45 dogs and 10 cats going on a transport on 6/25/26 but they need crates to get them all the way to the good life!

We are looking for new and gently used clean plastic crate (no collapsible or wire crates) donations, especially in 32” and 36” sizes.

Drop off at Pet Marfa, Alpine Animal Shelter or Pecos Animal Shelter during regular business hours (listed in the graphic).

If shopping locally, we’ve added the crates we need most to a Tractor Supply Wish List to make things easier. These items are available for local pick-up at either Alpine or Pecos Tractor Supply, where two of our drop off locations are!

If you aren’t local and would like to sponsor a crate purchase with your donation on otatwtx.org, just let us know when you make your donation of $90 or more (cost of a medium crate).

Caramelo is a fluffy small breed bud who is looking for his rescuer.

Until he came into rescue, he’d never lived in a home. He came from a group of small dogs who had been living outdoors, where stray dogs regularly attacked them. Several dogs in the group died, others bore the marks of prior injury. Caramelo survived, but he arrived understandably fearful and unsure of the world.

But this brave little dog shows us a little more curiosity every day. He enjoys gentle brushing and petting, watches the resident dog with interest, and recently played with a toy for the first time. He whines to go outdoors to potty, is quiet and reserved, and absolutely loves a soft bed. He is slowly learning that a home can be a safe place.

Caramelo needs a calm adopter who takes him as he is, a fantastic work in progress. He needs someone who understands that trust is earned and finds joy in the small victories: a tail wag, a solicitous glance, small steps forward.

If you’ve ever had a soft spot for the underdogs, Caramelo is a sweet one who will reward you with an amazing rescue experience.

Everything about it has been extraordinary. It was an extraordinary case, required extraordinary care, and racked up an extraordinary expense.

When he finally got home after 15 days of hospitalization, we realized that Trinity is an extraordinary dog.

Despite significant wounds, an arduous regimen of therapy and medication, a full foster house, and the memories of whatever experience lay immediately prior, Trinity moved in with extraordinary ease: perfect house manners, an incredible and generous affection for the foster puppies, no menace towards the resident cats, and the ability to share space and isolation with equal aplomb. He’s been quiet, snuggly, easy-going and happy. He walks nicely on a leash, he lounges outside brilliantly without one. He can be left alone without anxiety, he shares everything, and he is always looking forward to whatever might happen next. He has soulful eyes, great speckles, the softest fur, and an almost healed body that delivers him a great quality of life despite what he lost.

What a rescue! We can’t wait to see Trinity all the way home. Please help us find him guardians who will have the extraordinary experience of being his family.

This is the face Otis makes when he catches word that no one has raised their hand to foster him yet! So confused! (He has other faces, all super cute, swipe ➡️ to see)!

This big bear loves affection, treats, outside time and other dogs. He’s great on leash and has exactly the right amount of sweet smiley shyness just at first. Otis is in a full shelter that has other dogs waiting for his kennel. He’s got the dubious reprieve of heading to the vet tomorrow for his neuter and he would LOVE to be rewarded with a foster hope for rest and recovery.

His whole fancy foster kit is waiting at Pet Marfa, we just need someone wonderful to commit to two weeks with the big guy! If you can’t make it happen, please ask a couple other people if they can? Maybe he can get himself adopted even? Please share!
