From a son to his mother: Judy Walters Rechsteiner
9/15/23 -- Hi Mom. Today we remember as the day you left us.
As I look back at the lifetime of experiences we shared and you shared with others, I am reminded of the incredible legacy of horsemanship, equitation, and care you had for the industry you cherished and inspired others to join. You made skill-building fun and helped so many appreciate and fall in love with a sport that transcends gender, age, background, and circumstance.
Your influence reached far beyond ribbons, trophies, or accomplishments in the show ring. You taught patience, discipline, responsibility, and respect, not only for horses but for people as well. Through your kindness and encouragement, countless riders gained confidence in themselves, often before they even realized it was possible.
You had a remarkable ability to see potential in others. Where some saw obstacles, you saw opportunity. Where some saw fear, you saw the chance for growth. Because of that, many people found the courage to pursue goals they may never have attempted without your guidance and belief in them.
The horses you cared for undoubtedly benefited from your gentle hands and unwavering dedication, but it was the people whose lives were most profoundly changed. Students became teachers. Novices became competitors. Acquaintances became lifelong friends. The values you shared continue to ripple through the equestrian community and beyond.
Three years later, your absence is still felt, but so is your presence. It lives on in the lessons you taught, in the stories we continue to share, in every rider who carries forward your passion, and in every horse whose life was made better through the knowledge and compassion you passed along.
We miss your voice, your wisdom, your laughter, and your unwavering support. Yet your legacy remains very much alive. It can be seen in the people you mentored, the friendships you helped create, and the love of horses that you ignited in so many hearts.
Thank you, Mom, for everything you gave to all of us. Your life was measured not by the years you lived, but by the countless lives you touched. And for that, you will never be forgotten.
With love, remembrance and gratitude, always.
