🚤 Heading out on the water this Labor Day weekend? Please go slow for those below 💔🐢

While you’re enjoying the water, remember that sea turtles are sharing it with you.

Familia is a heartbreaking example of what can happen when a boat and a turtle collide. Her boat strike left her with devastating injuries, including a breached lung and a severely damaged shell. She’s fighting hard, and we’re incredibly encouraged by her progress ❤️‍🩹

But these injuries are preventable.

🕶️ Wear polarized sunglasses to help spot turtles at the surface
👀 Appoint a wildlife spotter
🚤 Slow down in designated areas and nearshore waters
🐢 Stay alert and keep an eye out for wildlife

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible wildlife that makes our oceans, coastlines, and communities so special — and reminding ourselves that they need our protection.

No excuses, just a good reason for missing my ultramarathon run training this evening. 100+ pound Green Sea Turtle was rescued off of Key West late today with the help of the US Coast Guard Key West sector. “”Baby Myrtle” was found floating, unable to dive. X-rays and a CT scan revealed a pneumothorax. Baby Myrtle received a lung tap, broad spectrum antibiotics, fluids, and vitamins tonight and was transferred to a hospital tank. Please send prayers and healing energies for this beautiful gal that is estimated to be in her mid 20s.

Look at Familia go! 💙🐢

After another CT scan with contrast yesterday, we got some VERY encouraging news — it looks like the blood patch did its job and her lung has sealed! 🙏🏼❤️‍🩹

So, we tested her out in a deeper tank for the first time since her intake, and she’s been doing GREAT! And of course, she celebrated by eating her weight in lobster and shrimp 😂🦞🦐

After losing some weight since her arrival, seeing this brave girl with such a healthy appetite makes us so happy 🥹💙

Familia still has a long healing journey ahead, but we’re incredibly encouraged by her progress. One day at a time ❤️‍🩹🐢

Hope’s pre-release exam with Dr. Terry went well! 🐢💚

She got updated X-rays and a weight check—and she’s gained a little since her intake! Our loggerheads sure do love their lobster 😄🦞

Her wound has healed nicely, and now we’re just waiting on her blood analysis results before making the final decision on her release. She’s come such a long way! 🌊💚
