We’re YEDA Nationals Bound!

Colleen Kleiser will be competing in the Individual Ruby Pattern (a class she is currently leading the nation in!), as well as the Invitational Ruby Rail. She is also interviewing for YEDA Queen- an ambassador role within this fabulous organization we’ve come to love over the past year!

We will also have the privilege this week of assisting my former intercollegiate coach, trainer, and close friend Adam D’Agostino with the care and handling of the horses being provided by his college, Alfred University Equestrian Center, as we made the decision to make the trip to Virginia without horses.

I cannot thank the team at home enough for managing the DKH horses in my absence. Having a great group of clients and a fabulous barn family is essential, and I truly am blessed with the best people!

Virginia, we’re coming for ya!

Miss Rose had such a great first month in partial training! This 4 yo Friesian x Curly mare came to me lightly started- about 15 rides on a lunge line from the time she was 2- but has mostly just been sitting as her owner welcomed her son into the world. We spent the last month working on lunging respectfully, moving forward, and steering, and she’s coming along so well!

Can’t wait to see what month 2 holds for this special girl! Thank you Kaylee for trusting me with her!

It was a good day for a trip down to Black Hawk College for their Ranch Horse Classic show!

We just went down for the Working Western Rail and Ranch Showmanship to polish a few things, and it was definitely worth the trip!

šŸ’› Suddenly Rugged šŸ’›

Colleen & Ritz laid down their best rides to date, finishing second in both of their rail classes. They also were 3rd in the Ranch Showmanship Jackpot with a score of 80- and they didn’t trip over any poles!

Ritz gave me some of her best rides yet in our 2 classes- some bobbles kept us out of the placings in deep classes, but I’m so proud of this mare. She’s a challenging horse but all of our hard work is starting to show!

šŸ”µ Investers Norfleet šŸ”µ

Norman was perfect, as always. He finished 5th & 6th with Kailee in her classes, and they had a BLAST as always. Norman also finished 4th with Colleen in the Youth W/J/L with a fabulous ride. There wasn’t much gas left in the tank for me, but he still was a perfect angel.

Super super happy with both of these horses today! Thank you BHE for putting on a great show!

SO PROUD of Colleen Kleiser! She finished out her first YEDA season leading the nation in the Ruby Pattern, having wins in this class at every show this season!

We're thrilled to be Virginia bound for Nationals in June!

If you want to join our winning YEDA team for the 2026-2027 season, which will start in the fall, it's not too soon to reach out! YEDA (Youth Equestrian Development Association) is a fabulous organization that gives young horsemen and horsewomen from 4th-12th grade the opportunity to compete in horsemanship, ranch riding, and reining events without needing to own a horse.

We šŸ’• lunge line lessons around here.

Honestly, if you ride with us, you’re probably going to spend some time on the lunge line at some point — and that’s on purpose.

When I control the horse, you get to focus on you.
Your balance.
Your position.
Your rhythm.
Your confidence.

We can work on sitting the jog, learning how to move with the lope, riding without stirrups, fixing your posture, and learning how to actually use your seat and legs instead of just your hands.

A lot of riders think steering is riding, but the truth is, steering is the easy part.
Balance, timing, and feel — that’s the hard part. And that’s what lunge line lessons help with.

It’s one of the best tools for beginners, nervous riders, and even advanced riders who want to clean up their equitation and become more effective.

Around here, we build riders from the ground up — and sometimes that starts on the end of a lunge line. šŸ’•šŸ“

Congratulations, Evie & Wesley, on your lease of Daisy!

Sometimes we pick our horses… and sometimes our horses pick us. Daisy becoming part of the Read family was the latter. From the moment Evie & Wesley met Daisy, there was an instant connection. When Wesley asked me about potentially leasing this mare for the summer as an 11th birthday present for Evie… I knew Daisy found her people šŸ’•
