As temperatures drop, rodents start looking for a way indoors, and so do the poisons meant to keep them out. Here's the catch: whatever makes rodenticide appealing to a mouse or rat often makes it appealing to pets too, so accidental ingestion is more common than people think.

There's also a secondary risk: a pet that catches and eats a rodent that's ingested poison but hasn't succumbed yet can become poisoned themselves, even if they never touched the bait directly.

If you ever suspect your pet got into some (directly or otherwise), don't wait it out, call us or an emergency clinic right away.

This week is all about our vet techs! They're the ones running labs, calming nervous patients, remembering the little details that make a visit easier, and somehow keeping the whole day moving.

If there's a Heritage Animal Hospital tech who's made a difference for you or your pet, give them a shout-out in the comments. They deserve to hear it.

Fallen tree nuts might look harmless, or in the case of walnuts in their green hulls, suspiciously like a tennis ball your dog absolutely wants to chase. But tree nuts can cause serious harm if eaten, from stomach upset to intestinal blockages.

Keep an eye out on walks and in the yard this season, those piles under the trees aren't as innocent as they look.

Every pet has that one skill nobody taught them and nobody asked for. Maybe it's opening doors, sensing snack time from two rooms away, or a truly impressive vertical leap.

What's your pet's hidden talent? Tell us in the comments, we want to hear the weird ones!

It's Pet Wellness Month, and there's no better time to get your pet in for a check-up. Real wellness comes down to a handful of everyday things: annual exams, staying current on vaccines and prevention, keeping your pet at a healthy weight, dental care, and daily exercise. None of it is flashy, but it adds up.

Ready to schedule your pet's visit? We'd love to see them soon.

They certainly don’t spend their time worrying about the future or fretting about the past. They live in the moment, and are a great reminder to do the same! 🐶
