Today is the day we have dreaded. Our beloved Hamish crossed the rainbow bridge. While our hearts are breaking we will always be grateful for the 13 years we have had with this wonderful guy.
You will always be my hero Hamish the Bamish.

Yesterday afternoon the first of our 2020 kids, Hardy went to his new family. He’s a very lucky guy because not only did he get to keep his “ boy parts” but he got to relocate with his mom Lynnie. She is a wonderful dairy goat who produces a half gallon a milking!
We don’t usually sell our much loved does but this is a very special family who bought two of our doelings two years ago.
Six kids ( the human ones) are going to love and learn all about the generosity of a dairy goat.

Four pregnant goats and one brooding chicken..the chicken “Skreech” comes in first by hatching ten chicks. Mother and babies are fine. Let’s hope it goes well for the goats.

I’m sad to say we lost our beautiful old goat, Fern this week. When we went to feed on Halloween evening we found her in her stall where it appeared she died peacefully.
We love all of our goats; they have always been pets more than livestock, but she was truly special.
It was Fern who taught both of us how to milk. It was Fern who first taught us so many things about goats; how generous they are, what great mothers they are and how they form a bond with their human that touches your soul.
Fern was fifteen, quite old for a dairy goat and her during last birthing she suffered a vaginal tear and lost so much blood that the vet treated her but gave her zero chance of survival. She had delivered a huge single buckling but was unable to stand or take care of him in anyway. The day before, Ruby had a stillborn so we put the buckling with her where she eagerly accepted him. That night we took turns staying with her because when we tried to leave she would bleat for us.
The next couple of days were touch and go but slowly she got better and was actually able to stand. She started “talking” to her baby and to our surprise Ruby brought her baby over to Fern where she was able start mothering him. That spring they were a remarkable trio, a very lucky buckling who had two moms, tons of milk and the cleanest face and behind on the farm.
She was the herd matriarch, always on watch. She taught every grand dog and guest dog that visited, that goats weren’t to be messed with including the neighbor’s new puppy.
Goats have changed my life and Fern was the beginning of the beautiful education.
Thanks Fern, please send your spirit back to us in one of this springs babies.
