FUN F**K OF THE DAY: Irish wolfhounds

Irish wolfhounds are the tallest of all dog breeds, with males standing at least 32 inches tall at the shoulder.
Size and Stature Taller than humans: When an Irish wolfhound stands on its hind legs, it can reach over 7 feet tall, easily towering over most people .Gentle giants: Despite their massive size and deep bark, they have a sweet, calm temperament and are famously good with children. Terrible guard dogs: They are too friendly and loving toward strangers to make effective guard or defense dogs. History and Origins Ancient roots: Written records of the breed go back to 391 A.D. in a letter from a Roman consul who thanked his brother for a gift of Irish dogs that "all Rome viewed in wonder". War dogs: Celtic warriors used packs of these giant hounds in battle to drag armed soldiers off horses and out of chariots. Royal mascots: Since 1902, the Irish Guards infantry regiment has kept an Irish wolfhound as an official live mascot.
