Everyone give a warm welcome to Rosie! 🐾

Rosie is a young Bernedoodle who apparently missed her calling as a professional high jumper because this girl can HOP. 😂 I’m pretty sure all four feet can reach eye level when she really puts her mind to it.

She’s here to work on some basic manners and learn how to better channel ALL that puppy energy. At home, she has a doggy friend who has been getting the full Rosie experience: stolen bones, nonstop pestering, and a level of enthusiasm her owners weren’t quite anticipating. 😂

Over the next several days, we’ll be working on creating better boundaries, impulse control, appropriate ways to use that energy, and building her confidence as we introduce her to new environments and experiences.

She’s smart, she’s energetic, she’s ridiculously cute, and she’s ready to learn.

Let’s go, Rosie, you little smart cookie! 🍪🐾

What started as a little girl dreaming of having a farm full of dogs somehow turned into this.

It may not be a farm, but more than 30 years later, I’ve found a way to fill my life with more dogs than I ever could have imagined.

When I started Jack’s Pack, my goal was simple: I wanted to help dogs and their people learn how to communicate. Training changed what was possible with my own dogs. It allowed me to take them places, experience more life with them, and build a relationship based on understanding each other. I wanted other people to experience that too.

And sometimes I still have moments where I look around and think… this is actually my life.

I get to hike for work. I get to explore parks, wander through stores, grab coffee, enjoy beautiful days outside, and have dogs by my side while I do it.

Of course, it isn’t always fresh air, happy dogs, and cute puppies. Some days I’m working with a dog who is terrified of the world. Some are reactive. Some are struggling with behaviors that have made everyday life difficult for their families.

But that makes days like this mean even more.

Because the goal is to help those dogs eventually experience more of this life too. To watch their confidence grow. To see communication replace frustration. To watch a dog and their person finally start understanding each other.

That is the part that keeps me going.

I love my occupation. ❤️

The little girl who wanted a farm full of dogs would be pretty amazed by the life we built instead.

And we’re just getting started. 🐾

Do you have fun running errands with your dog? Does your dog get to be part of your everyday life outside of the house?

I know I love having a dog along for the ride!

Today I had several errands to run, so instead of separating training time from everything else I needed to get done, Millie came with me. Two birds, one stone: real life training AND getting my errands done.

We started with a stop at one of our favorite local spots, Fool’s Kava House. Then we headed to DICK'S House of Sport for a quick return and a little shopping, followed by At Home while I looked for some new furniture and organization pieces.

We finished our two hour adventure with a couple of curbside pickups, and this might have been one of my favorite parts.

Millie sat quietly in the car, relaxed and observing while people approached. No barking. No trying to climb over the seat. No insisting she needed to greet the person loading groceries into the car. She simply watched, waited, and enjoyed being along for the ride.

Training your dog doesn’t always have to mean setting aside an hour and heading somewhere specifically to train. Take your dog into the moments where you actually live your life. Practice while you shop. Practice while you grab a drink. Practice while you wait for groceries.

The more they learn how to exist calmly in your world, the more opportunities they have to actually be a part of it.

Millie was an absolutely fantastic companion today, and I loved getting to spend those two hours with her!

Millie is officially halfway through her training program, and she is making some great progress!

Millie came to me already knowing quite a bit. Our biggest focus has been taking the obedience she knows and teaching her to maintain it when the environment gets a little more distracting.

So far, we’ve practiced at restaurants, around crowds, and even spent an evening surrounded by live music, vendors, people, food, and plenty of distractions.

With the goal of therapy work in mind, we’re also making sure she gets exposure to different sounds, surfaces, obstacles, environments, and situations she may encounter in the future. It’s not just about knowing the commands. It’s about being able to stay confident, focused, and responsive no matter what is happening around her.

We’re only halfway there, and I can already see some really great progress.

Way to go, Millie! Keep up the good work!

It was grooming day today at Jack’s Pack!

As I’ve mentioned before, grooming and handling are such important skills for our dogs to practice. Willow headed back to continue working on her handling skills and getting more comfortable with the grooming process. Another great experience for her and another step in building her confidence.

She was joined by another one of my fosters, Fig, who had his first puppy grooming experience at about four months old. We didn’t have any big expectations for him today. The goal was simply to get him a little cleaner and start introducing him to the sights, sounds, handling, and overall experience of being at the groomer while he’s young.

Both Willow and Fig are available for adoption through North Texas Australian Shepherd Rescue , so don’t forget to check them out if you’re looking to add a new member to your family!

Bentley and Scarlett joined the crew for their usual pampering too. Scarlett isn’t one who typically needs to visit the groomer, but sometimes when my hands are full, it’s pretty nice to let someone else take one thing off my plate.

So basically, the whole gang went today!

A huge thank you to Eva Arreguin for always doing such an amazing job with my group of chaos and helping make grooming a positive experience for the dogs I bring in.

Let’s welcome Scout, the newest member of Jack’s Pack!

Scout is here for a Board & Train program to work on puppy obedience and build some solid everyday skills. She is very much a Lab through and through: lots of energy, super smart, eager to go, and just needs some good direction for where to put all that enthusiasm.

We’re only three days in, and we’re already working on walking nicely on a leash, coming when called, place, and learning how to settle and maintain place for longer periods of time.

She’s working her way through it and learning more every day. I can’t wait to see how much progress she makes over the next couple of weeks and what Scout looks like when it’s time to head home!

Meet Merit, my special weekend guest! 🐾

I had the opportunity to bring Merit home from the Mansfield Animal Shelter through their Dog Night Out program over the long weekend, and what a great opportunity it has been to get to know this sweet girl outside of the shelter environment.

Shelters play such an important role in helping animals in our community, but even the best shelter can be a stressful place for a dog. A few days in a home gives Merit a chance to decompress, relax, socialize, and show us more of who she really is.

And Merit has given us plenty to love!

She is great with other dogs, wonderful with kids, potty trained, crate trained, and loves to cuddle. She listens well, has enjoyed playing and socializing, and has even gotten a tiny bit of training while she’s here. She has a nice medium energy level and settles beautifully in the home.

Merit really is such a sweet, easy girl who could make a wonderful family dog or companion. ❤️

She’ll be heading back to the Mansfield Animal Shelter, and I highly recommend going to meet her when the shelter opens back up Tuesday. Sometimes all a shelter dog needs is the opportunity for someone to see who they are outside of the kennel.
