🚨 PLEASE READ: THIS CAN MAKE OR BREAK A LOST DOG’S CHANCE OF GETTING HOME 🚨
I am BEGGING YOU, as a community, when it comes to helping with a lost dog, PLEASE share this information far and wide because it NEEDS to be understood.I KNOW personally how hard it is to not call out to a dog that looks out of place or lost. Especially when it’s a dog that’s been widely shared and you just want to help get them home. That instinct to help? It’s real. It’s human. But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE … we HAVE to retrain our brains in these situations.
99.99999% of the time, that dog is NOT going to come to you if they don’t know you. At that point, honestly, many won’t even come to their own family. They are in survival mode. And when we call out, chase, or try to approach them, we push them further away from the very area they felt safe enough to be in the first place.
The BEST thing you can do if you see a loose or lost dog is:
📸 Take a photo
✏️ Note the exact location
⏰ Note the time
🧭 Note the direction of travel
👀 Observe behavior (calm, pacing, running, hiding)
This information is EVERYTHING!! This is how we track patterns and increase the chances of getting them home safely.
And please, families of lost pets … DO NOT encourage the community to go out and try to catch your dog. I know it feels like more help = better, but in these situations, it often causes more harm than good. We need sightings and scent! Not just anyone trying to physically catch the dog. Because not only does it delay recovery, it creates serious risk. I have personally witnessed dogs get chased into traffic and hit. I have seen fear reactions turn into bites. These are real outcomes!
If you truly want to help, please learn these calming methods. But understand that in most cases, LESS interaction is more.

Think about it this way … if you were walking down the road and someone you didn’t know suddenly started yelling for you or chasing you , throwing food at you, etc … what would you do … you’d run too! Dogs are no different. We ALL want these pets home safe. But that only happens when we respond the right way in the moment. And a safe, detailed sighting is FAR more valuable than trying to catch the dog yourself.
Please take this seriously. It truly can make the difference between bringing them home or pushing them further away.
