As flowers bloom, so do risks for our pets, with plenty of opportunity for them to breathe in particles, scratch an eye, poke a paw, or even get snagged by a branch or thorn, all of which could potentially lead to infections.

Infections can be sneaky subtle—If your pet is not acting right and you are not sure what it is, get them checked! Like with most conditions, the sooner we treat an infection, the better your pet will feel.

If your walks have turned into a tug-of-war match, it might be time to rethink how you handle the leash. The secret is showing your dog that pulling is actually the slowest way to reach their favorite sniffing spot. 1. Halting your forward movement the instant the leash goes tight makes pulling counterproductive. 2. Using a consistent heel command helps guide them back to your side where the pace is more manageable. 3. Offering a small reward whenever they keep the leash slack encourages them to check in with you regularly. By stopping instead of tugging back, you avoid a power struggle and emphasize that walking together is a partnership. A relaxed stroll is much more enjoyable for both of you when you are on the same page.

☀️🐾 As the weather starts warming up, here are a few important reminders to help keep your pups safe this summer!

• Walk Early or Late
Try to stick to morning or evening walks when temperatures are cooler and safer for your dog.

• Keep Water Handy
Always bring water for both you and your pup. Hydration is so important during warm weather.

• Check the Pavement
Hot pavement can burn sensitive paws. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for them! Choose grassy or shaded areas when possible.

• Watch for Overheating
Heavy panting, excessive drooling, slowing down, weakness, or bright red gums can all be signs your pup is getting too hot. Take breaks and find shade often.

• Protect Their Paws
Booties or paw wax can help protect feet from hot sidewalks and pavement.

• Never Leave Dogs in the Car
Even with windows cracked, temperatures inside a vehicle can rise dangerously fast within minutes.

🐾 Special Reminder for Flat-Faced Breeds
Breeds like Bulldogs, Pugs, Boxers, and Shih Tzus are especially sensitive to heat because of their shorter snouts. Keep outdoor time shorter and always monitor them closely.

Summer adventures are more fun when everyone stays safe, cool, and happy.
Share these reminders to help keep pups protected all season long!
