📢 Holiday Closure Notice

Prairie Paws Animal Shelter will be closed Sunday, September 6th, and Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day.

We’ll reopen with our normal hours on Tuesday, September 8th.

We set out to take some cute action shots of our dogs… and apparently they had their own creative direction.

Somewhere between “run this way!” and “look at the camera!” things completely fell apart. We got flying ears, questionable leg placement, tongues working overtime, and facial expressions that really deserve their own explanation. Honestly, we couldn’t have planned these pictures better if we tried.

Just a few of our adoptable pets showing off their personalities and proving that being photogenic is apparently optional.

We completely understand the instinct to help when you see a cat outside. Finding a cat alone can be upsetting, and your first thought may be, “I need to get this cat somewhere safe.” We truly appreciate that compassion and concern. However, bringing a cat to a shelter is not always the safest or best way to help—especially when the cat is healthy and not in immediate danger.

Many outdoor cats are loved pets, community cats, or moms who are temporarily away from their kittens. If the cat appears healthy and safe, please leave it where you found it and post on local lost-and-found pet pages and neighborhood groups to see if an owner can be located. Having the cat scanned for a microchip is also helpful.

Please remember, cats brought into shelters have a 13% lower chance of being reunited with their owners than cats left in the area where they were found.

We know this can be difficult to understand, but we ask for your patience and trust as we work to do what is truly best for each animal. Our goal is always to help cats get home.

Shelter Pet of the Week is Mocha! Mocha is a very playful, loving, and goofy girl. She is looking for someone who can match her energy level, along with a comfortable place to wind down at the end of the night! She has experience around cats and does well with smaller dogs. If you think she would be a good match for you, stop by anytime during out open business hours to visit with her!
