Flea and tick prevention is not one-size-fits-all and most pet owners don’t realize how many options there actually are.

Some pets do great with a monthly chew. Others need something longer lasting. Some don’t take pills at all. And for some families, convenience is everything.

Here’s what that can look like:
– A 12-month injectable option like Bravecto Quantum for dogs
– 3-month chewables like Bravecto
– Topicals for cats like Bravecto Plus or Revolt
– Collars like Seresto that last up to 9 months
– Monthly preventatives that also cover heartworms and other parasites

All of them work. The “best” one is the one that fits your pet and your routine so you actually stay consistent.

Because consistency is what keeps your pet protected and your home flea-free.

If you’re not sure what your pet should be on or if it’s time to switch, ask us at your next visit. We’ll help you find the option that works best for both of you.

If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

Pavement heats up fast, especially during Louisiana summers, and those temperatures can burn your dog’s paw pads in just minutes.

A few things to keep in mind:
– Pavement can be much hotter than the air temperature
– Paw pad burns can happen quickly and are painful
– Aim for walks early in the morning or later in the evening
– Watch for signs like limping, licking paws, or hesitation to walk

If you wouldn’t walk barefoot on it, they shouldn’t have to either.

When in doubt, test the pavement with your hand or stick to grass and shaded areas to keep your pet safe.

Not every pet takes medication easily. And honestly, that’s okay.

We see it all the time. Pets who won’t take pills, spit them out, or make it a whole event every month. The good news is, you have options.

There are injectable preventatives like ProHeart for heartworms, and long-lasting flea and tick options like Bravecto that can be given less frequently or paired together for full coverage.

Some pets do best with monthly routines. Others benefit from longer-term solutions that take the pressure off remembering every dose.

The goal is not just to prescribe something. It’s to find a plan that actually works for your pet and your day-to-day life so you can stay consistent.

If giving medication has been a struggle, talk to us. We’ll help you find a better option.

Heartworm prevention is one of those things that feels easy to put off… until you understand what treatment actually looks like.

Heartworm disease is completely preventable, but once a pet is infected, treatment becomes expensive, time-consuming, and honestly, hard on your dog. We’re talking months of restricted activity, multiple visits, and a process that can impact their overall quality of life.

And even after treatment, there can be lasting damage to the heart and lungs.

That’s why we strongly believe every pet should be on heartworm prevention year-round, especially here in Louisiana where mosquitoes are a constant.

The good news is, prevention is simple and there are options to fit your pet:
– Monthly combination preventatives like Simparica Trio
– Injectable options like ProHeart for pets who don’t take pills well
– Plans that can be paired with flea and tick prevention for full coverage

If you’re not sure what your pet is currently on or if it’s the best option, this is a great time to ask. Prevention is always easier than treatment, and we want to keep your pet healthy, active, and feeling their best.

Talk to us at your next visit or give us a call to get your pet set up.

New puppy at home? You might start finding tiny teeth around the house.

That’s totally normal.

Between 12–16 weeks, puppies begin losing their baby teeth as adult teeth come in. You may notice:
• More chewing than usual
• Slight discomfort
• Little rice-sized teeth on the floor

By around 6 months, most puppies will have all of their adult teeth — about 42 total.

What helps:
• Safe chew toys to ease teething
• Gently getting them used to having their mouth handled

What to watch for:
If baby teeth don’t fall out on their own, they may need to be removed.

Teething is a short phase, but it’s an important one. If anything seems off, we’re always here to take a look.

**Update: King has an adopter! There are some birds in the mix as well, we are waiting on details. **

Friends. We are coming to you with an emergent need for a home. A friend of one of our clients is at the end of her life and had a place for her pets that has now fallen through. We are looking for a home for this almost 2 year old male neutered lab named King. If you have any interest in this dog please DM us or reach out to the office to do a screening.

There are other pets in this home that may also need your assistance. We will follow up when we have more details on those.
