This heat has been brutal, y'all! 🥵
Last month when we were set up, we got home & got whoever we brought back settled before checking on the main flocks. Unfortunately we found our main guy Batman in our Silkie & Satin flock had passed while we were gone that morning. That was a total gut punch, as we had made the pen & coop setup for this particular flock just for him & his son Robin only a year ago.
We decided to give Marble another shot at being back in with the flock & thankfully Robin has accepted him & the flock is happy & calm, of course Marble is ecstatic to be back in with the girls protecting his flock.
We have had some tough luck with this particular flock this summer & haven't been as focused on them for breeding, but we are attached to them all & will still have them as pets & at least for eating eggs.
Here is where we would love to hear your thoughts!
We have always been a little out of the box, enjoying hatching fun color varieties & not too worried about being strict on our flocks being separated by color, but each flock continues to be breed focused for strong, healthy chicks with a few pending tweaks in moving a few around for next year to be even better breed focused.
We may or may not try to find some more Silkie girls for these two handsome fellas, and that kind of depends on the thoughts we get here.
No, neither Robin or Marble are the "typical" roosters that would come up in a Google search for Silkies or Satins, however their friendly & intelligent temperaments are what wins us over for them. Batman was Robin's dad over our Bantam light Brahma hen & Marble is Robin's son over Audrey, a Satin Cochin/Silkie mix. They currently have blue, black, white, & buff/gold multicolored hens.
