Pawsitive Change for Kitsap Cats

Pawsitive Change for Kitsap Cats We provide education about the homeless cat population and resources for cat caretakers.

We work to reduce the population of unowned cats, get adoptable cats into homes, and improve the health / well-being of feral or community cats in our neighborhoods.

Honestly?
๐™‰๐™š๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™๐™š๐™ง ๐™™๐™ค ๐™ฌ๐™š.

Nobody doing TNR has extra time laying around.

๐Ÿ˜ชThe people trapping after work?
Tired.

๐Ÿ˜ชThe people setting alarms every 45 minutes to check traps?
Tired.

๐Ÿ˜ชThe people driving before sunrise to clinics?
Tired.

๐Ÿ˜ชThe people answering messages while cooking dinner, raising kids, working jobs, and barely holding their own life together?
Tired.

People just decide something matters enough to make room for it anyway.

Thatโ€™s the part we wish more people understood.

Somebody rearranged their schedule.
โ—๏ธLost sleep.
โ—๏ธSpent money.
โ—๏ธSweated their ass off in the heat.
โ—๏ธLearned how to trap.
โ—๏ธDrove across counties.
โ—๏ธWas frustrated.
โ—๏ธOverwhelmed.
โ—๏ธBurnt out.

Because once you truly SEE the problem, it becomes really hard to ignore it.

This work is not built on people with unlimited time, money, or energy.

Itโ€™s built on ordinary people deciding:
โ€œSomeone needs to do somethingโ€ฆ so I guess itโ€™s gonna be me.โ€

And honestly?
That mindset is the only reason any of this works at all.

The people making a difference in this community are not super human.

Theyโ€™re exhausted, ordinary people who decided these โ€œunownedโ€ cats still mattered anyway.

Quick PSA for my plant lovers who also have cats. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฑ

Some of the most popular houseplants out there (pothos, English ivy, sago palm, lilies, daffodils, etc.) are seriously toxic to cats. And unlike dogs or horses, cats have zero evolutionary instinct to avoid them.

I've put together everything you need to know on my blog. Don't skip this one. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Many thanks to Dayna for sending in this pic of Charlie sniffing his totally non-toxic, homegrown catnip. What a lucky boy!

What happened in Jasper, Georgia, over one weekend in April is the kind of large-scale, community-powered TNR effort that makes you stop and think about what's really possible when the right organizations work collaboratively:

When Fix Georgia Pets and Be Paws We Care brought together seven rescue organizations, four veterinary teams, and volunteers from across the Southeast for a four-day TNR blitz in Pickens County, Georgia, the results spoke for themselves: 172 surgeries, 23 pregnant cats, and countless futures changed...

WASHINGTON STATE NEEDS THIS. KITSAP COUNTY NEEDS THIS! We need TAX FUNDED SUPPORT for free spay/neuter and TNR that is not directly given to the big shelters unless it is supporting new, focused, constantly available resources (not โ€œeducationโ€ or โ€œstate of the art facilitiesโ€ but constantly easily accessed free surgery appointments). https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Fj4xaw9g6/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Governor Lujan Grisham has officially signed Senate Bill 38 into law, marking a permanent win for animals in New Mexico. This legislation ensures a reliable flow of $1.5 million annually for low-cost spay and neuter services, preventing the suffering of untold numbers of domestic dogs and cats across the state.

Community cats are clever; they gather in places that offer reliable food and shelter. When it comes to cat colony management, there are often heated debates about how best to feed them.

So let's debunk some common feeding myths and discuss effective care.

1๏ธโƒฃ Myth: Feeding outdoor cats is problematic and creates new cat colonies.

Reality: Feeding helps manage an existing situation. By establishing a consistent feeding schedule, youโ€™ll be better able to catch them and get them spayed and neutered. A feeding pattern makes it predictable when theyโ€™ll show up and allows you to withhold food so theyโ€™re hungry enough to go into traps.

2๏ธโƒฃ Myth: Stopping the feeding of an outdoor cat colony will lead to them moving away and finding a new location.

Reality: Not necessarily! Community cats are very attached to their territory and will be reluctant to move. They may find new food sources, such as another neighbor or an open dumpster or trash can. In fact, they may already have extra food sources youโ€™re not aware of! Thatโ€™s part of the reason why itโ€™s so important to โ€œwork the neighborhoodโ€ when beginning your TNR efforts and discover any other feeders and coordinate with them.

3๏ธโƒฃ Myth: Feeding is enough care for a colony.

Reality: Feeding community cats should always be done alongside Trap-Neuter-Return. TNR prevents new litters, promotes the catsโ€™ long-term health, and improves their lives.

Focusing on TNR is the most effective way to improve the lives of outdoor cats. If you're already feeding a colony, consider going a step further to make a real impact for the cats in your care. We are here to support your TNR efforts and set you up for long-term success!

Wonderful work by Feral Feline Fixers in Poulsbo! This cat has evaded trapping by feeders at a local senior living neighborhood for over a year. Not only did he get neutered , shots, and his wound treated, but these two other tabbies who had been roaming un-neutered behind a strip mall were finally TNRd as well! One was a female, two male, so thatโ€™s at least two litters prevented this spring!
