The animals below are STRAYS turned into the PWC Animal Services Center between 09/1/2026 - 09/3/2026. We post photos of stray animals brought to the Center a couple of times each week to help owners find their missing pets. This posting is a courtesy only and we will not answer questions via Facebook about animals pictured here. If you believe your pet is at the Center, please inquire directly by calling (703) 792-6465, emailing [email protected] or visiting the Center.
Reminder, proof of ownership is required to redeem your pet and you should provide proof of current rabies vaccination at the time of redemption. These pictures should not be considered all-inclusive and if you have lost your pet, you should immediately contact the Center.
Lost pets may be redeemed daily as early as 8AM, including the days the Center is closed. Our hours of operation are:
Monday: CLOSED FOR BUSINESS
Tuesday-Friday: 11AM - 5PM
Saturday: 10AM - 4PM
Sunday: Noon - 4PM

A Love Story from a Volunteer!
A little bit of background- I have been in the market for a dog since graduating PA school. I’ve always known my first dog would be from PWC so I have been diligently watching the Petfinder, but living in NC has made it hard to get up to walk dogs or sit on a decision for too long.
When I saw Darlin/Louise was back at the shelter, I knew I didn’t have much time to decide (hence all of the questions in the group text) 😅 I fell in love with her back in 2024, and she was my first shelter heartbreak when she got adopted. Everyone reassured me it was for the best and the most we can hope for is that she’s in a loving home. So, when I saw she was back, I decided I couldn’t leave that up to chance. She was going to get the loving home she so desperately deserves.
I made this decision Monday night that I would make the 6 hr drive to Nova Tuesday morning. However, right before pulling off to make the trip, my dad (a private pilot) asked if I wanted him to fly us to VA to ensure we’d get there around the time the shelter opens. How could I turn that down 🫣
To make an incredibly short story long, we flew up to VA to pick her up and the rest is history! She had her very own first class trip back to NC and acted like she’s done so for her entire life. ✈️ She took absolutely no time to adjust and has been her sweet, loving self since the moment I picked her up. She’s been enjoying her time taking walks on the beach and playing with her new dog best friend/cousin, Lizzie! 🐶👯‍♀️
And to pay homage to my hometown and where I fell in love and adopted her, her new name is Nova! (She didn’t respond to Darlin nor Louise so a I felt like a fresh start was in order anyway) 💕
Thank you to Beate and Sarah for the help with her adoption! This is one face you’ll never see back at the shelter, though I’m sure she’d love to say hi to everyone sometime!
