We’re continuing our Veterinary Technician Week celebrations by highlighting the incredible people who go above and beyond for our patients every day! 🐾

Next up is Laura! She’s been a veterinary technician for 21 years and has spent the past 6.5 years at VRCC, where she serves as our Director of Nursing.

One of Laura’s favorite parts of veterinary medicine is caring for critically ill patients and seeing them stabilize, turn a corner, and begin to recover. She also enjoys the challenges of complex anesthesia cases, where skill, careful monitoring, and attention to detail are essential.

As Director of Nursing, Laura is passionate about advocating for both patients and staff. She values the highly skilled team at VRCC and the shared commitment to helping animals through even the most difficult illnesses. She also appreciates working in an environment where her concerns and recommendations are heard and respected.

For Laura, excellent patient care is always a priority. She has a particular interest in neurology and takes great pride in the teamwork and quality of care the VRCC team provides.

We’re continuing our Veterinary Technician Week celebrations by highlighting the wonderful people who make a difference for our patients and their families! 🐾

Next up is Bridget! She’s been a veterinary technician for 16 years and has been part of the VRCC family from 2004 to 2020, returning to the team in 2026 as a relief Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).

Bridget loves the emergency side of veterinary medicine, especially being able to help animals and their people through a crisis. She understands that emergency care involves more than just treating a medical condition. Supporting pet owners through the emotional challenges that come with these situations is just as important as providing compassionate medical care.

She’s also passionate about making veterinary care accessible to all pet owners, because every pet deserves the opportunity to receive the care they need.

One of Bridget’s favorite things about VRCC is the lasting relationships she’s built over the years, making lifelong friends that have become as close as family.

Outside of work, Bridget is busy with her own family, including her spouse, two children, five dogs, and two cats. ❤️

We’re continuing our Veterinary Technician Week celebrations by introducing you to the dedicated team members who make a difference for our patients every day! 🐾

Next up is Ash! They’ve been a veterinary technician for 1.5 years and have been part of the VRCC team for 5.5 years. Today, they work as both an ICU and surgery technician.

For Ash, one of the most rewarding parts of being a vet tech is spending time with their patients and making them as comfortable as possible. Whether that means creating an extra-cozy bed, finding a meal they’ll enjoy, or giving them some sunshine and fresh air on a walk, Ash believes the little things can make a big difference.

Ash also appreciates the collaborative team at VRCC. Working alongside doctors, assistants, and fellow technicians means everyone can work together toward the best possible outcomes for their patients. And since no two shifts are ever the same, there’s always something new to learn!

One area Ash has become especially passionate about is anesthesia and pain management. Although managing anesthesia for complicated cases once felt daunting, they’ve used that challenge as motivation to keep learning and building their skills to provide the best possible care.

It’s Veterinary Technician Week, and we’re continuing our celebration of the amazing technicians who make a difference in our patients’ lives every day! 🐾

Next up is Veronica! She’s been a veterinary technician for 19 years and has spent 12 of those years at VRCC as an ICU/ER technician. She’s also a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Emergency and Critical Care, reflecting her advanced knowledge and dedication to caring for critically ill and injured patients.

For Veronica, one of the most meaningful parts of being a vet tech is advocating for those who can’t speak for themselves. She’s passionate about the critical care side of veterinary medicine and continually advancing her skills to provide the highest quality care possible for every patient.

Veronica also loves that VRCC allows her to pursue her passion for veterinary medicine while maintaining an amazing work-life balance. With coworkers who feel like family and a team that looks out for one another, she’s found a workplace where she can grow professionally while feeling supported personally.

It’s Veterinary Technician Week, and we’re celebrating the incredible techs who make a difference in our patients’ lives every day! Throughout the week, we’ll be introducing you to some of the talented people behind the care at VRCC and sharing what makes veterinary medicine so special to them. 🐾

First up is Morgan! She’s been a veterinary technician for 4 years and has spent the past year at VRCC as a surgery technician.

For Morgan, one of the best parts of being a vet tech is getting to comfort animals through some of their toughest experiences. Whether it’s offering extra cuddles, helping patients feel safe, or providing comfort when they need it most, she loves being there for them.

Morgan is also passionate about Fear Free techniques that help reduce stress and anxiety for veterinary patients. Creating a more positive experience for animals is an important part of the care she provides every day.

When it comes to working at VRCC, Morgan loves being part of a team that feels like family. She appreciates the close-knit atmosphere and being part of an independent practice.

Although Morgan has been a vet tech for 4 years, she has nearly 10 years of experience in the veterinary field. And even after all this time, she still gets excited to come to work every day because of her patients. ❤️

Meet Ginger! ❤️

This sweet 3-year-old Boykin Spaniel was referred to Dr. Aman in surgery for a suspected luxating patella in her left rear leg and a possible cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) tear in her right knee.

After taking X-rays and performing an orthopedic exam, Dr. Aman discovered that Ginger actually had luxating patellas in both knees, with the right side being more severely affected.

A luxating patella occurs when the kneecap slips out of its normal position in the groove of the femur. This can cause discomfort, an abnormal gait, and difficulty walking or running. Surgery helps stabilize the kneecap so it can track properly, improving knee function and helping prevent further joint damage.

Because both of Ginger's knees were affected, Dr. Aman recommended she have staged surgeries, addressing one knee at a time. Her first surgery on the right knee went well, and she's officially on the road to recovery! 🐾

Once Ginger has fully healed from her first procedure, she'll return for surgery on her left knee.

We're wishing Ginger a smooth recovery and can't wait to get her back on all four feet!

Do you know if your pet is a healthy weight? 🤔

Many pet owners don’t realize their pets are carrying extra weight. It can happen gradually, and what feels like a healthy size to us may not be ideal for our pets.

Why does it matter? Excess weight can increase the risk of several health problems, including:

🐾 Arthritis and joint pain
🐾 Diabetes
🐾 Heart and respiratory issues
🐾 Reduced mobility and quality of life

So, how do we know if a pet is at a healthy weight? One tool veterinarians use is a Body Condition Score (BCS). This scale helps assess whether a pet is underweight, at an ideal weight, or overweight by evaluating body shape, how easily the ribs can be felt, and how much fat covers the body.

As you can see in the chart, a healthy weight isn't just about the number on the scale. Body shape and fat coverage matter, too!

It's also important to monitor changes in your pet's weight and appearance over time. Unexplained weight gain or loss can sometimes be a sign of an underlying medical condition, even if your pet seems otherwise healthy. If you notice a change, check in with your veterinarian.

National Pet Obesity Awareness Day is a great reminder to check in on your pet's health! Ask your veterinarian about your pet's ideal weight and body condition, and whether adjustments to their diet, treats, or activity level could help them feel their best. ❤️

With fall travel and the holidays coming up, many of us will be leaving our pets in someone else’s care. Before you go, take a few minutes to make sure your pet sitter knows what to do if your pet becomes sick or injured.

Having your veterinarian’s information is important, but your sitter should also know where to find your pet’s medications, who to contact if they can’t reach you, and what you want them to do in the event of an emergency.

A little preparation ahead of time can make a big difference when every minute matters. Save this checklist and make sure your pet sitter has everything they need before you leave!

And if your sitter ever needs us while you’re away, VRCC is open day and night from Monday at 8 a.m. through Saturday at 6 p.m, closed on Sundays. Just give us a call at (804) 784-8722.
