Meet Meatball!
This sweet 5-year-old cat came to VRCC after being seen at an urgent care for a urinary obstruction. Meatball was successfully unblocked at urgent care and referred to VRCC for hospitalization and continued care.
Urinary obstruction is a serious emergency in cats (males most commonly) that occurs when they are unable to pass urine. Treatment involves relieving the obstruction and providing supportive care while the bladder and urinary tract recover. Meatball spent about three days at VRCC receiving IV fluids and medications to help him urinate and reduce inflammation.
After his urinary catheter was removed, Meatball was monitored overnight to make sure he could urinate on his own before going home. Unfortunately, he became obstructed and needed to be catheterized again.
Once his second catheter was removed, Meatball continued to urinate on his own and was doing well. Keeping him hospitalized for monitoring after removing the catheter allowed our team to catch the re-obstruction and provide the additional treatment he needed before he went home.
After our team confirmed that he could urinate on his own, Meatball was able to go home for continued care. We wish this lovable boy the best in his recovery!
